If you are looking for a great, non-resort place to stay you have found the right location! If you do not want the resort experience, and clearly do not want to pay the resort prices yet discover a wonderful vacation spot...you have found your treasure here! This cottage features 2 bedrooms with a wrap around porch in quiet, tranquil Slaughter Beach/ Milford, DE where bicycle riders have the true right of way on town roads! We treasure our very quiet beach neighborhood, with its own general store, brand new (installed in May 2013) community playground with tennis and basketball courts. Milford, (Slaughter Beach) is close to entertainment (Dover Downs, Lewes, Rehoboth and Ocean City Beaches), history (Dover Air Force Museum) science (DuPont Nature Center) shopping (3 full outlet centers in Rehoboth with tax free buying). NASACAR visits Dover twice a year and brings a variety of entertainments with those 2 events! Slaughter Beach can be easily accessed from NJ by taking a sail on the beautiful Cape May/Lewes Ferry. The ferry leaves Cape May and arrives in Lewes, DE which is only a 20 min. drive north to Slaughter Beach. Check out the CMLF website for their sailing schedule should you wish to add a delightful sail aboard the comfortable vessels which cross the bay daily. Most likely that you'll observe beautiful dolphins while sailing across the bay! Each bedroom has a double bed and the front room (our study) has a pull out sofa which sleeps 2. All beds will be made up with freshly laundered sheets. We DO NOT supply towels. You will need to bring your own towels. The newly remodeled kitchen with granite counter, stainless steel dishwasher, oven, microwave and refrigerator await your cooking talents should you prefer to eat at home. There is a new washer and dryer to accommodate your washing needs. The home has 2 full baths, living room/ dining room, with sliding doors to view pond or bay... You will find a public access path just a short walk (approximately 500 ft) down the street to the Delaware Bay. This area of the beach is a natural beach which is best suited for beach combing and quiet beautiful walks. Further along heading south (approximately 1.5 miles) you will find the public swimming beach next to the firehouse. There is plenty of free parking, a covered beach pavilion and restrooms at this location. Located 1 mile from the front door is a newly constructed public boat launch which puts you on the Mispillion River (briefly...1 mile) and then onto the Delaware Bay for fabulous fishing and enjoyment of other water sports. Also, enjoy the gorgeous views from the recently constructed DuPont Nature Center which is a 2 mile walk/bike ride from the property. If enjoying the peaceful surroundings needs a blend of activity, it is only a short 23 mile drive on Rt. 1 south to Atlantic Ocean beaches ...Cape Henlopen State Park... Lewes...Rehoboth, Dewey, etc. All the tourist needs/wants can be found there with every kind of dining which may interest you.... And of course, there are the outlets...Tanger outlets have 3 sections of "bargains for everyone" and its all TAX FREE! The Delaware State Parks have many activities to suit just about anyone. Killen's Pond is one of Delaware's State Parks located 12 miles from the property. This is one very special Park because it features a water park at a very reasonable cost. We are year round residents of Slaughter Beach although we do not live on the property. We will welcome you when you arrive at the cottage and will be available should you require any assistance. Our neighborhood is quiet, peaceful and not crowded. It boarders on the Delaware Bay and the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge. It is not uncommon to see migratory waterfowl, ducks, geese, shorebirds and other reptiles & mammals common to the marsh & beach habitat. There is no public transportation in town. PLEASE NOTE: if you are booking for Labor Day weekend, the cottage is available but I want you to know we will be replacing the patio sliding door from 8am to 4pm on Monday Sept.4, 2017. We have reduced the price to reflect the slight disruption this may have on your stay. The door is not located in any bedrooms. It is in the dining area that goes out to the deck. From Memorial Day Weekend until Labor weekend, the minimum stay is 4 nights. The standard 3 night minimum is in effect at all other times. Also: A guest reported to us that they did not have cell phone connectivity. Verizon is my carrier and I have not had connection issues. (Just a heads up if you have other service)
