The six fabulous fireplace mantels are centerpieces of an architectural excellence seen only in the palaces of Europe. An exotic gingerbread arch hangs overhead at the entrance which lore says was removed from Gilbert's riverboat. Just beyond the elegantly carved, beveled door is the main staircase designed by the architect who created a similar grand staircase at the White House.
