Tradition has it that the construction of Sant'Agata to Arfoli is due to the Countess Matilde di Canossa, and that it is the oldest of the Fiesole diocese. According to some researchers the foundation of the church dates back to the period of the Goths and, although the documents concerning it do not mention its origins, its first mention dates back to 1230.
