Beautiful neighborhood walks The space Our home was one of the highest occupancy vacation rentals in our area while we lived overseas. Now we get to live in it and share it with you!!! This is a large, three story, 3,600 sq. foot home with a rolling yard with apple trees. The New River is across a quiet street where we've built a rock step access. Our property line extends halfway into the river as well as five acres of wooded mountainside behind the house that you're welcome to explore. We are steps away from the new Pine Run River Access point, part of the New River Paddle Trail! Which makes our location even more desirable. We have two large decks and recommend a morning cup of coffee on the main floor deck while rocking in one of our rocking chairs or the porch swing. Perhaps an evening of s'mores at our fire pit. We have wine glasses, wine opener, a tray for taking snacks to bed. Sit in front of the fireplace to relax, read, sip a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Please note that your room is quiet and private, but it is located inside our home so there is not a private outside entrance to your room. It is one floor above the main floor. So if you cannot walk up stairs, it would not be suitable for you. We give you as much privacy as you wish. If you want to chat, that's great. If you want to keep totally to yourselves, we certainly respect that. We often have the large flat screen tv on, (softly) in the main family room. It's either playing music or some sports or news event--much like a hotel lobby feel. You're welcome to sit there and choose a show, pick a movie, read magazines or just hang out and play games and chat. Consider it "your family room". There is a TV in your room with pre-loaded and pre-signed in apps for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and Disney. CLEANING FEE: This covers cleaning of your room and bathroom as well as the large main floor, main floor bathroom, kitchen, main deck and servicing of hot tub. Guest access Guests may have access the entire second and third floor of our house except our bedroom or the other guest room. We have ample parking to fit a horse trailer if needed or camper. There are horses in the neighborhood who occasionally ride up and down our street, so you may want to bring your horse and take a ride. We have a large flat screened TVs hooked up to the internet. Additionally, there is a Smart HD TV in the guest room that has a Netflix guest account ready for you as well as Hulu, Amazon and Disney +, . 400 Mps Wifi access throughout the house and on the decks. Six, one person kayaks and multiple inner tubes are available during the warm months (May-September). If you have your own way of strapping on the kayaks we can point you to various places to put in depending upon the length of the ride you want. You can fish in the river in front of our home. The river is shallow enough for kids to safely play (supervised of course) and explore little critters in the river and mud. :-) During your stay We do travel A LOT, so may not be home when you're there. We come and go so you will often have time alone in the home as well. We want you to feel "at home" in our home. We LOVE having guests and hope you will feel a part of our family, to the extent that you choose to interact with us. If it's a retreat you want, we'll give you all the space you need, if you want to join us to watch a game on ESPN, a movie, an evening meal, you are most welcome... just let us know. You can pick up a remote and watch a football game at the main floor tv, take a drink out on the deck and unwind, build a fire in the fire pit and relax--as you wish. We can make suggestions of places to visit, things to do, our favorite restaurants, etc. during your stay. If you really love animals, Eddie would love to be taken on a walk or run or just play catch in the front yard. If you're not into dogs, we'll make sure that Eddie--the rambunctious black lab doesn't bother you. Other things to note We are located 10-12 minutes from the Appalachian State Campus and just a few minutes from an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway. As an FYI... My husband, John, is also a Clemson Grad--undergrad and NC State-- graduate school. Don't know if that's good or bad from your perspective. I'm from the San Francisco area and thought USC meant University of Southern California--until we got married and I discovered there's a USC on the East Coast! News Flash to me. We met on a blind date in Penang, Malaysia and I ended up hospitalized by the end of the date. Ask us to tell you the story. I studied international politics and economics for graduate school at Johns Hopkins and lived in Washington D.C. for a while. We've lived 20 plus years in Asia and I've been to 71 countries, so between my husband and I and our three kids--we're a little confused about where "home" is. Welcome to our confusion--we look forward to meeting you and totally understand cultural distinctions. We all speak Mandarin--though may be forgetting it too quickly. I, used to be fluent in French and Italian and would love to brush up on those languages as well.
