The area around Pear Tree Cottage is called ‘The Puzzle Gardens’ and has the feel of a Cornish fishing village - a random patchwork of houses and gardens removed from traffic and noise. Visitors will enjoy exploring the ancient ‘jitties’ and courtyards of the Puzzle Gardens, or sitting on the bench in front of the cottage, with a drink, to take in its character. Wirksworth is a small, charming market town situated just a few miles from Matlock, on the edge of the White Peak. It is full of character with many buildings of architectural interest, including its magnificent parish church. Independent shops sit alongside the deli, butchers, and bakers, with a strong local food ethic. Visitors will enjoy the Heritage Centre and the delightful surrounding countryside including nearby Carsington Water, Black Rocks, and the High Peak Trail. Rock climbing and cycling can be enjoyed here at every level, and there are good walking routes all around.
