Easy access to the National Forest with its network of forest roads will allow you can access forest roads to and from Pitkin, Waunita Pass, Waunita Hot Springs, White Pine area, Alpine Tunnel, Hancock Pass, St Elmo, Tincup Pass, Napoleon Pass, Cumberland Pass, Union Park, Taylor Park, Taylor Pass to Aspen, Fossil Ridge Wilderness, and numerous lake and streams. Winter activities abound with easy winter travel access (Gunnison County plows the roads when needed to keep them open). Enjoy snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross country skiing (ski-in/ski-out), sledding, or just a relaxing walk out your front door and up the road. Monarch Ski Resort is 37 miles away on US Hwy 50 at the continental divide. The snow there is all natural light powder. Crested Butte Ski Resort is 51 miles away via roadways with no mountain driving required. Another adventure is soaking in the Waunita Hot Springs pool at Waunita Hot Spring Ranch which is 19 miles away. This is one of Colorado's largest pools and is heated by the natural hot springs. The pool stays at 95-102 degrees year round. This facility is mainly for private groups and events, but is intermittently open to the public, mainly during the week. Please check with them directly if you are interested You’ll know you made the right decision when you enter the Quartz Creek Valley and view the stunning scenery. According to the forest service, this valley is the heaviest forested area in Gunnison County. Nestled right up against the mountain among aspens and pine trees in the Gold Creek Valley, the cabin sits on 1 acre of manicured Kentucky blue grass lawn and faces west with a view across the 3-acre hay meadow where big horn sheep wander the opposite mountain side. Elk herds, deer, and an occasional bear can be also be seen. Built in 1990, this 3 level, 2000 sq ft open floor plan offers 3 bedrooms/2 baths which can sleep six individually. THE SPACE Pine paneled walls, wood beams, timbered steps and an iron stove give this cabin its rustic charm. The main floor fully furnished kitchen with open timber shelves and an island make meal preparation easy. Dinnerware, cookware, blender, crock pot, toaster, hand mixer, ice maker, spices and other amenities are all available. A Weber gas grill awaits your freshly caught fish or store bought steaks. Eat outside on the deck on the picnic table, or under the aspens on the lawn or in the dining room. Sleeping accommodations include new memory foam beds in the three private sleeping areas. Upstairs is the master suite with a king bed with privacy doors, a reading nook and a separate bath (tub/shower for young children). Downstairs is a private queen in the Solarium featuring a rock wall. Also, downstairs are two twin XL’s beds with privacy doors. Additional beds include a full futon downstairs and a queen sleeper sofa on the main floor. The main floor bath includes a shower, large vanity and laundry facilities. Privacy blinds ensure a good night’s sleep. For the ultimate vacation experience, Ohio City has no cell service…land line available in the cabin (newer smart phones should have cellular service via Wi-Fi). If you must maintain contact with the outside world, there is High Speed Internet at 18 Mbps/Wi-Fi and DirecTV streaming on an Amazon Fire Stick TV for watching the Samsung Smart 55” HDTV on main level. A 32" flat screen TV in awaits in the basement. Also, in addition to the Samsung Smart TV there are two Blue-Ray players with numerous apps allowing streaming including DirecTV Stream, Amazon, Pandora and numerous family friendly DVD’s. Outside is a beautiful lawn to enjoy a game of croquet, bocce ball, or giant Jenga and a fire pit (fire wood supplied) available for a quiet evening gathering. Premium linens include plenty of fluffy bath towels, 500 thread count cotton sheets, cotton blankets and duvet covers with down alternative inserts. Two pillows per guest are gel down-alternative. All bed and bath linens are laundered in between guests. This includes mattress pads, pillow protectors, duvet covers, shams, blankets, sheets, towels, bathmats and shower curtain liners. A short drive up Gold Creek Campground Road (CR 771) will provide access to plenty of activities including hiking numerous trails, 4-wheel drive forest roads connecting to Pitkin and beyond, access to Fossil Ridge Wilderness, and snow shoeing/cross country skiing in the winter. Just several miles up CR 771 are dozens of abandoned gold mines and ghost towns that await your exploration in an area known as the "Gold Brick Mining District", the most productive gold mining district in Gunnison County. Gold Creek runs through the valley and provides fishing access. Quartz Creek also provides plenty of nearby fishing access. Several lakes that are regularly stocked are within a short driving distance. Pitkin is 6 miles away. Areas beyond Pitkin provide numerous mountain pass roads and historic areas. The property managers have provided numerous maps and pamphlets for your use detailing the surrounding area and can also provide personalized ideas for your daily excursions. Gunnison National Forest access via Gold Creek Campground road which also leads to Fossil Ridge Wilderness. Numerous lakes and streams in the area which are stocked with trout. Just up the road is access to the Gold Brick Mining District which has numerous mines and ghost towns to explore. Numerous hiking trails in the area access destinations such as Fossil Ridge and numerous high mountain lakes. Winter offers activities such as cross country skiing, snowshoeing just out your door. Road is kept open year round with Gunnison County providing plowing every morning as needed...this usually happens early to accommodate the school bus. Gunnison, CO is located 21 miles away. Nearby ski resorts include Crested Butte which is 51 miles away and Monarch 37 miles away. Other things to note No cellular service available. Newer smart phones should have access via the WiFi. (Please check your owners manual). Land line via VOIP in the cabin. The garage and weather port are for owners only. There is plenty of parking available on the property. Garbage removal is usually provided on a daily basis. Due to Covid-19 concerns, this will be discontinued and use of the trash bin provided for self use. A trash bin is available if needed. This is bear country. Plan accordingly and be mindful that food smells attract them. The gas grill needs to be kept clean for this reason. Winter activities abound with easy winter access. A 30% discount is available through their website online and I have made arrangements for the same 30% discount as a walk-in (although I would recommend making your reservation ASAP online rather than waiting for the last minute).
