An authentic, traditional Riad in the Drâa oasis

Situated in Agdz, a town located along the shores of the Drâa River and facing the tajine-shaped Djebel Khissane Mountain, our welcoming guest house offers 4 traditionally built rooms which open to a private patio and a secluded swimming pool. The space Dar Sofar was constructed using local, ancestral techniques which employ rammed earth. Characterized by 60 centimeter-thick walls and small windows, the rooms were customarily built to provide natural protection from the region's extreme temperatures. The inner patio, at the center of the property, and the pool - made from Tamgrout green tiles - also echo local heritage. Offering the best of both worlds, the overall aesthetic and accommodations were thought out to reflect an intersection between authentic Moroccan, local handicraft and a European sensitivity, while also providing an expected comfort. The first thing you might notice when entering the rooms are the large traditional doors. Inside, you will be struck by the earthiness of the walls, the high ceilings made of mud and straw, and the traditional carpets on the floor. Each room is equipped with air conditioning, heating, and includes a full private bathroom (shower, sink, and toilet). The bathroom walls are primed in Tadlakt - a uniquely natural, Moroccan permeating technique - which gives surfaces a slight sheen. All guests are provided with linens, blankets, room and swimming pool towels, as well as premium shampoo and soap products. The linens and towels are replaced on a weekly basis. Total surface: 23 sqm (16,7 sqm room + 6,3 sqm bathroom) Nakhla Room: Triple Room (3 single beds 80 x 190cm), max occupancy 3 people, heating/air conditioning system. Fossil stone sink, shower, and toilet. Total surface: 22 sqm (16,4 sqm room + 5,7 sqm bathroom) Sherazade Room: Double Room (1 double bed 140 x 190 cm) + 1 single bed (80 x 190cm), max occupancy 3 people, heating/air conditioning system. Copper sink, shower, and toilet. Total surface: 24 sqm sqm ( 17,8 sqm room + 6,2 sqm bathroom) Total guest capacity: max occupancy of 11 people + 1 baby (a baby cot available) Guest access Other spaces, services, and equipment: • Free and gated parking on site (for up to 5 vehicles) • High Speed Wi-Fi Internet (optical fiber) in all common areas: reception, restaurant, swimming pool, and garden. Important to note the signal isn't always available or reliable in the rooms due to the thickness of the walls. • Patio, characteristically laid out with Moroccan bejmate, and measuring around 70 sqm. • Vegetable garden measuring around 300 sqm • Laundry. Available only through the staff, there is a washing machine on site. Upon request, the washing will be done for you and once done, you will find the clothing air-drying on the garden's clothesline. The Kitchen (around 18 sqm): • Gas stove • 2 large fridges (with freezers) • Dish washer • Crockery and tableware for up to 2 people • Fully equipped kitchen • Coffee machine (drip/filter) The Main House • Living room and dining room fitting up to 12 guests (around 40 sqm). • Veranda in the patio fitting up to 6 guests (around 12 sqm). The Swimming Pool: • The swimming pool measures 8 x 4 meters and is 1,5m deep. The pool is not heated but the temperature tends to evenly range above 20°C between the end of March and mid-October. It includes 5 sunbeds and 4 deck chairs. • For lounging purposes, we have set up a traditional Berber tent which can welcome up to 8 guests (around 25 sqm). • The swimming pool veranda is covered and can fit up to 10 guests for dinner (around 18 sqm) The Garden, which is around 100 sqm, includes a 12sqm lounge which can sit up to 12 people. Other things to note The presence of a caretaker on the property is mandatory. Acting as guardian and groundkeeper, he resides on the property in his own separate room, tucked by the garden. Discreet and available as needed, his presence is merely there to ensure the safety and comfort of the guests.
