The Cottage - Joy River Backpackers

The Cottage Is self-catering and a sleeper unit only & contains, one double and one 3/4 bed. Bedding is provided and mosquito net. Ablutions (flush toilet and shower) are apart but dedicated to your accommodation. Joy River Backpackers is situated at the very beginning of the Blyde River Canyon. A genuine African village experience, rustic & laid-back atmosphere prevails and the buildings serenely blend into that of the village. The water is potable. The space The Stone House... is self-catering and contains, in the main bedroom, one double and one 3/4 bed with an en-suite bathroom, flush toilet, bath and shower. The lounge, with a fireplace, contains a single bed and couch. Bedding is provided and mosquito nets. In the summer months, you may want to bring rub-on repellent. Having said that, fear not, No MALARIA HERE. The in-house self-catering kitchen is equipped with the basic utensils to prepare a meal on gas, plates as well as an array of crockery and cutlery. There is a fridge and braai/barbeque space is available just outside the house. The Cottage... is self-catering and a sleeper unit only & contains, one double and one 3/4 bed. The Dormitory... is self-catering and a shared 5 sleeper only with 2 x bunk beds 1 x 3/4 bed shared. Ablutions on site, shower, toilet & kitchen are communal. The Communal kitchen... is equipped with the basic utensils to prepare a meal on gas, plates as well as an array of crockery and cutlery. There is a fridge and braai/barbeque space is available just outside. Guest access Guests can take a lovely swim in the Blyde River which constitutes the eastern border of the Hostel. Other things to note Joy River does not yet have card facilities on its property and guests are reminded that payment of their account with Joy River for amenities used must be paid in cash on arrival and after inspection of the facilities available for use. Unless guests use a South African Service provider Internet access is impossible. There is not yet any WiFi facilities available. Guests have to bring their own food and drink for all meals. We used to offer pizza to guests staying at least 3 nights. However pizza's are regretaly at preset unavailable since we have commenced with restoration activities to the oven!
