Island Getaway
ISLAND GETAWAY Relax and enjoy The Getaway’s beach on the north shores of Beaver Island, with magnificent views of nearby islands and spectacular sunsets. Experience the natural beauty and history of the island, while being only a five minute walk from the historic village of St James. Take pleasure in island pastimes like hiking, biking, birding, and fishing or just relaxing in the solitude of island life. NOTE: We are no longer able to allow guests to bring their dogs. This two-story home offers an open floor plan accommodation for guests on the second floor. For outdoor fun there are two bikes, an outdoor grill and a large fire pit for roasting hot dogs and making s’mores. Frisbee, lawn darts, cornhole and other games can be played in the yard. Stairs lead down to the beach for sunbathing, swimming, hiking, shell/rock collecting. Transportation to the island from Charlevoix is via the Beaver Island Boat Co., Island Airways, or Fresh Air Aviation. The ferry accommodates both passengers and vehicles if you choose to bring your car to the island. If you choose not to bring your vehicle, transportation from the boat dock or airport to the Island Getaway will be provided. Your host, Sue Oole, first came to Beaver Island in the early ‘50s as a young child where her family built and operated the Beaver Island Lodge. Her family lived on the island for several years then moved away but visited the island often. The island is now Sue's permanent address and she volunteers as a docent for the Beaver Island Historical Society. She also offers tours of the island to first-time visitors. Guests of The Getaway usually don't bring their vehicle to the island but here is parking next to the house if they do. It is only a short walk to town and many guests just enjoy walking the roads, trails, and beaches around the house. Guests will arrive on the island via ferry or plane and I meet my guests at either the ferry dock or airport. When we arrive at The Getaway, I share an introduction to not only their guest space, but to the island in general. I offer all guests a free tour of the island that includes eating places, stores, shops, museums, etc. Beaver Island is a popular place to visit, so when guests do not show up for their reservation the host is likely to lose out on a rental opportunity. Because of this, this host follows the AirBNB established No-Show Policy.
