Description
This award-winning 1890 fully renovated and restored cottage has retained much of its original charm -- beautiful and colorful walls, hardwood floors and high ceilings. Large windows allow for lots of natural light, and a small deck in the back gives guests some privacy for outdoor relaxing. The historic home, a survivor of the Great Storm of 1900 (and all others since) is located next to a neighborhood restaurant (which has been there for 75 years) and is close to beaches and The Strand. The space The house is called Galveston Speakeasy Cottage because of the little peek-a-boo door, which is original to the house, and reminiscent of the Prohibition Era establishments, but you will not have to utter a secret code word to get into the house. The restoration -- recently honored by the Galveston Historical Foundation -- was mindful of the original 1890 plan, so much of the historic qualities remain: transoms over doors, heavy wooden doors with crystal knobs, large windows and beautiful oak floors. The house is in between the Gulf of Mexico (free) beaches and the historic Strand area, with shops, galleries and restaurants. Within walking distance -- like next door-- is a local restaurant and down the street is the Bryan Museum. A lovely park is across the street for kids or pets to play in. The yard is fenced as well. More information and photos are available at galvestonspeakeasy.com Guest access You will have full access to the house. The crawl space underneath is the owner’s storage area. The house has a private back deck and small patio. Exterior cameras have been installed on both the front porch and rear porch -- facing the doors -- for security purposes. Other things to note House has been disinfected for Covid-19, although we have not had any one with the virus stay at the house. For security purposes, we have installed exterior cameras on the front and rear porches -- facing the doors. There are no cameras inside the house. Registration Details GVR-04675
