Description

A small but cozy cabin, warmed by our kerosene heater in the winter and with a small air conditioner for the heat waves of summer. The sunroom maintained by my sister is warm on sunny winter days and cool during the summer. Our property is peaceful, with only my mother, sister and my sister's grandson living in the two other dwellings on the three acre property. We offer complete privacy for those that prefer it; or for those that enjoy it, we love meeting and gretting our guests. The space Beautiful Anderson Valley, with its rolling ridges of mixed Redwood, Fir, Tan and Live Oak, and Madrone trees, with lots of pasture land and vineyards in the valley bottom and going up the open slopes. Small creeks and the Navarro River as waterways, and magestic groves of giant redwoods. Our property is approximately three acres at the end of Ruddock Road North in Philo. The original dwellings still exist, about a century and a half old now. Purchased by my grandparents in the 1950's, these were built by the Dightmans as a first place to live while building thier permant homestead up the hill behind us. The guest cabin was built later in the 1980's as an in-law dwelling. We're directly adjacent to Indian Creek Road on one side, and privately owned large acreage in the back. When in season and in good years, we have fresh picked peaches, nectarines, and apricots from trees in the yard, and the vegetable garden might offer tomatoes and other fresh produce during the harvesting season. Guest access The cottage has a bedroom, a small bathroom, a front room with a small dining table, living room space, and a full kitchen. There is a washer and dryer adjacent to the bathroom. If there are extra guests, please let us know. The sofa in the front room is comfortable for an adult or child to sleep on and there are plenty of blankets, sheets and pillows. We can provide a mattress topper should floor sleeping be desired. The sunroom is a barrier between the bedroom and the back yard. The bedroom wall has a picture window to the sunroom which is a popular private place to sit and relax. Bedroom windows are hung with blackout curtains as is the large window in the front room. The cabin is cozy and should have all the essentials. If not, my sister is a text or call away. Other things to note If possible, please book ahead for March through September of every year. Our cottage has become very busy and we want to accommodate you. We will take in everyone we can possibly manage. Our cabin is a quiet and private place to come home to after any activities you wish to take in. We have a Roku device for those of you who have Netflix, Amazon Prime, or other internet streaming channel accounts. We added an extender to the wifi antenna and it works fine now for personal or streaming purposes. August is the month for peaches, apricots, and any nectarines that show up on our trees. The tomatoes have been coming in later. March is beautiful in the valley with the daffodils, narcissus, and lilacs blooming. Indian Creek State Park is just a short walk away and across the highway. A trip to the Greenwood Ridge Road will take you to Hendy Woods State Park just a five minute drive from our house. From Hendy you can access swimming holes in the Navarro River for those interested in cooling off on a hot day. Or drive over the Greenwood Ridge, where more wineries abound, to the quaint town of Elk (formerly Greenwood), and the beautiful Mendocino Coast. From there you can turn north towards the towns of Mendocino and Fort Bragg, or south to Manchester, Point Arena and Gualala. From Philo, take a scenic drive to the end of Highway 128 through the famous redwoods to where the road joins the coastal highway at Navarro Beach, leading to Mendocino and Fort Bragg, or back across the bridge towards Elk.
