Just 3 miles south of the Sugarloaf Mountain access rd. The camp is a very quiet retreat for family and friends. Dog friendly. Snow shoe out the back door and connect with the trails of the Outdoor center. Tune your skis on the basement work bench. Valley shuttle is available on call. The space In the early 1950’s my grandfather, Walter “Slim” Melvin came over to Sugarloaf to lend a hand. He never left. The original camp was 18’x18’, what is now the living room and dining area. On a busy weekend it was common to have 20 people sleeping ass to elbow using every square foot. There was no plumbing in the camp until we updated it in 1998. We used the outhouse. My mother got tired of knocking the icicles of of the toilet seat and had the bright idea to bring it into the house where it hung in a place of honor next to the back door. All the wood in the original camp came from my great grandparents saw mill. The addition was designed by my father and built by my uncle. I designed and built the dining room table. My daughter is a fourth generation Sugarloafer and proud of it. We have been ski patrol, ski instructors, racers, and snow makers. This is why this place is special. Guest access If you are adventurous there is a snowshoe trail that goes into the woods next to the outhouse. In about a mile it links up with the trail network of the outdoor center. I’ll try to get some maps made op soon. Until then it’s a lovely out and back hike. Other things to note If your not interested in alpine skiing then try the Nordic Center or just head into the woods with some snowshoes.
