ENJOY a private bedroom, shared hall bath, in our relaxing Colfax Cabin and acreage. Watch turkeys and deer meander by from our huge deck! During HWY 80 road closures WE are always accessible! YOU: 100% nicotine free. Sounds weird, but no nicotine in your bloodstream from any source. Serious allergies, here. FULL bed ONLY. Couples or Parent/Child or 2 Parents and 1 small child. BYO paknplay. COVID limits access to common areas, and requires a new cleaning fee. Confirm you read this. We own a phenomenal 8 garden property that joyfully comes with a house and MIL unit attached! Please indicate you are NICOTINE FREE in your first contact, BEFORE booking. COVID has really changed things. Sorry, for the cleaning fee. NO additional animals allowed. Aggressive pit bull and deer have both attacked our dog. (Plus my service dog needs his own space free of other dogs.) A warm and relaxed three bedroom, two bath home, on 3 and 3/4 oak covered acres! Our primary residence, our HOME (we are gone quite a lot). We only rent out ONE bedroom. WE are about 7 minutes from highway 80. We want to love our guests! Make sure you read the RULES!!! OUR gardens have an extraordinarily long growing season. We have a moderately open floor plan and a definite country feel. DINE in the large kitchen nook. BARBECUE on our charcoal grill, rather than gas, - it creates juicier, more flavorful food than the gas grill we have at our other home. It only takes a very few minutes to fire it up with our coal tower, (with no chemicals) and we have plenty of mesquite charcoal available for your use, and kindling to start it with. Or COOK in the large full kitchen with a gas range including oven. Make sure you clean up though! HOT TUB, if you like. It is located off the library. (WE NEED 48 HOUR NOTICE, and there is a separate fee. Discuss prior to booking.) BATHROOM - we have one hall bath which is available to our guests. We have a master that is almost complete. The shower is not finished yet so we do shower in the hall bath as well. ELEVATION is just low enough that chains are almost never required, but close to serious snow when it's available. We do get a few dustings of snow in the winter at the ranch, which we call "postcard snow". GENTLE slopes allow for walking in the yard and on the land. We have a chicken coop, enclosed vegetable garden and a green house, none of which is currently in use, over time we will get our home back to its original glory. (If we get chickens, you might get to feed them, but then you can also cook the eggs!) Due to Covid, we have had to limit guest access. Just your room, your bath and your minimal use of the kitchen. WALK: Our oak covered hills take a while to walk, featuring deer and turkey cutting through the property. RELAX as you sip your coffee in the early morning or enjoy a glass of wine on the deck in the evening. You can barely see the nearest neighbor in any direction! Keep an eye out for those deer and other wildlife, including fox, opossum and coyote. We have on very rare occasions seen fox, skunks and raccoons, but they are there. Stay clear of all! BIRDWATCH: SierraFoothillsAudubon period com, lists dozens of birds that you can watch from our deck, or while hiking. We have posted videos of 6 known types on our "page"... today I saw two hawks playing right outside my window. Usually it is our year round hummingbird couple that is right outside. BLACKBERRY PICKING: Blackberries abound in the summer and you can pick them to your hearts content. Same with the cherries if you can beat the birds to them! There are wild grapes, if you are ambitious! We have several Blueberry bushes but not being fans, can't tell you when they ripen. WIFI is available. BYO subscriptions. HOTTUBING is only available if we already have it up and running unless you are staying a week or more, and there is a fee associated, depending on how far we have to go to get it ready but no more than $50 a week. For longer stays we will make sure it is available whenever possible. IF we are not present, you would want to make sure you have both our cell phone numbers stored in your phone before you leave your home. WHEN present, we are generally in the library, (Jamie) in our MIL unit, or working in the yard. You might find Jerry in the kitchen. We are in the middle of an OAK forest. We do a great deal of fire mitigation. We are very rural. We are often not easy to find via GPS. We have wild animals of all sorts in our forest, and lots of bugs, especially in the spring and after first rain. COLFAX is a town of great significance, in the very important Californian "Gold Country" of the Sierra Foothills. Colfax is roughly equidistant between Sacramento and Truckee (40 minutes). We are about 20 minutes from Grass Valley and Nevada City via 174 and the same time/distance above Auburn, to Rollins Lake or the American River. Each of the towns mentioned has a great deal of their own history. PANNING FOR GOLD: Bear River is right down the road from our home, just a few miles outside of Colfax. Bear River is famous as a still productive location for the hand panning of gold! All you need is a gold pan, something to sit on, and a container in which to store your collected gold! When you get tired or hot you can just swim or tube in the icy waters to cool off! RAFTING: The American River is across Highway 80 to the east and has great water activities. "The Colfax-Iowa Hill Bridge to Ponderosa Way Bridge run is the most popular section to run and has been a favorite for California rafters and kayakers since the mid seventies. This 9.5 mile run contains many steep drops and boulder slaloms, providing some of the best whitewater rafting of the 3 forks of the American river." Excerpt from the "North Fork" tab of the American River rafting website. KAYAKING: Either river, or lake, will provide hours of sun and fun. SKIING: is world class. Closest is Sugar Bowl, with Boreal nearby. Northstar, Squaw, Alpine Meadows, and Incline, are all within about an hour. Boreal and Incline are best for less experienced skiers. Northstar is great for the average to well above average skier (free lessons for level 6+). Serious double black skiers will skip them and go to Squaw, Alpine or Sugar Bowl. FISHING: Rollins Lake is the Bear River's premier rainbow and brown fishery, according to the AppealDemocrat, and fishing can vary dramatically according to the season. Stampede/Bocca Reservoir (farther up the highway, just past Truckee) is one of the leading kokanee salmon fishing lakes in the West. Anglers will also find plenty of brown, mackinaw, and rainbow trout. Fly fishing is popular at the lake, according to CaliforniaGreatLakes. CELEBRATING: Downtown Colfax offers old town celebrations and a family feeling you don't get in larger communities. We are home to the Fire and Iron Festival, (with a little burner feel) and a fabulous July 3rd Celebration among many others! ARTS: The Colfax Theater is re-opening soon. It will be state of the art both in projection and sound. They will be hosting movies, live theater as well as musicians, plus they boast the largest dance floor in northern California. EATERIES: The food is great at most every spot we have tried. Sandwiches from the grocery store are FANTASTIC. The pizza by the market in town is among the best we have ever had in the traditional style. Pizzaiolo is fantastic for a lighter oven fired style. The Greek restaurant has awesome gyros. You will love Dine and Dash, but you will stay to relax! SHOPPING: Quaint stores dot the main street in town, with locally produced gifts and art. Grass Valley and Nevada City have awesome shopping as well, if you like to spend your days poking around historic towns (we do!) Auburn is about 20 minutes away, with a greater variety of businesses, and services along with a historical downtown area. HIKING: According to MVTrails, "The Stevens Trail is one of the most scenic and accessible trails in our area. Originally built as a toll road for pack mules between Colfax and the gold fields of Iowa Hill, it slopes gently downhill for about 3.6 miles to the confluence of Secret Ravine and the North Fork of the American River. It offers breathtaking views of this designated "Wild and Scenic" section of the river canyon." TRAIN: There are trains in and out of Colfax, but we have not taken any trips yet! You can go either towards Sacramento to Reno. You will need a car. You can take the train, but it is a two mile walk. It's almost entirely down hill coming and of course a lonnnnnggggg walk going. You can try for Uber, but good luck! Taxis will require 24 hour advance notice. We have parking for MANY cars. We are in the middle of an OAK forest. We do a great deal of fire mitigation which can be noisy. We are very rural. We are often not easy to find via GPS. We have wild animals of all sorts in our forest and lots of bugs especially in the spring and fall. Neighbors have roosters which can be heard at a distance. They also do target practice. There is almost no outside noise audible when inside the house, except engines. 8% taxes which may be due to the county are YOUR responsibility, but we pay them on your behalf. They will be collected via the resolution tool at the end of your stay, since lengths of stay vary from the original plan, and sometimes they are not even required. Plan on discussing this. IF YOU SMOKE OR VAPE ANY SUBSTANCE AT ANY TIME, PLEASE DO NOT ASK TO STAY WITH US. If we see ANY evidence of smoking, we will charge you a minimum of $150 of your deposit. This can include cigarette or cigar wrappers, ashes or odor on guests or guest's belongings. VAPING is just as bad. A $50-250 cash security deposit may be held prior to access, and unless there is damage or SMOKING, is fully refundable. We want to give it ALL back! We have a toy poodle service dog, Blizzard. He is extremely well behaved. He will ignore you (unless you are friendly to him) and is HYPOALLERGENIC and flea free. !!!!!DO NOT Try to to pet him!!!!! Give him time to warm up to you!!!!! If you are here while you conduct a house hunt, Jamie is a REALTOR®. OTHER Professional business services available: ~Real Estate Loan Signing ~General Notarization IF WE HAVE TO MAKE ALTERATIONS TO THE HOUSE, OR YOU HAVE UNUSUAL NEEDS, IN ORDER TO ACCOMMODATE YOU, WE MAY CREATE AN ADDITIONAL CONTRACT ABOVE AND BEYOND AirBnB's TOS.
