Description

The Commodore Suite PRIME LOCATION on Baltimore’s MOST-BEAUTIFUL and HISTORIC block! Just steps from world-famous Peabody Conservatory and Library, Walters Art Museum, and Washington Monument (circa 1815). Stay in the elegant 180-year old Tiffany Mansion surrounded by Old World architecture, parks, fountains, sculptures, museums, concert halls, and Gothic churches. Walk to live theater, classical music, and the city’s best foodie scene from informal to fine dining. A photographer’s dream. The space STEP BACK IN TIME: Named for famous house guest of the mansion in 1852, US Navy Commodore Matthew C. Perry, this magnificent Paris-style private suite has all the ship's bells and whistles for a long, comfortable stay in Baltimore's most beautiful historic neighborhood. Ideal for a romantic getaway, theater/museum weekend, or week-long conferences. Or just enjoy the unique experience of relaxing in a Gilded Age mansion owned by some of the most illustrious families in US history. Located directly on prestigious Mount Vernon Place, the circa-1839 Tiffany Mansion is a gracious vestige from a bygone era. It was once home to cotton mill owners, the founding family of Tiffany & Co., the surgeon who performed the world's first heart transplant, and a royal composer for the Queen of England! Ask about a private 15-minute tour of other grand rooms and suites in the Mansion. We will try to accommodate, though rooms are not always accessible for touring. STYLISH ACCOMMODATIONS: This huge 2-bedroom private suite features lofty 12-foot ceilings, chandeliers, 2 carved French marble mantels, original Victorian gilded mirrors, private tiled entry foyer, and stunning views of the parks and gardens of Mount Vernon Place and the Washington Monument. The large private parlor and adjoining private dining room are furnished with eclectic vintage furniture suitable for a global voyage. There is also a large desk facing the TV which has free Netflix, Prime, and Hulu access, perfect for burning the midnight oil. This suite is a great retreat for the budding novelist or musician auditioning at Peabody across the street. The private kitchen is fully appointed with everything needed to cook and serve a meal, though dozens of restaurants, cafes, and carry-outs are all within a short walk. Bedroom #1 has a queen-size bed with new super-comfy Tuft&Needle mattress. Bedroom #2 has a full-size bed with Tuft&Needle mattress. The private bathroom retains its vintage subway tiles and cast-iron sink from the early 1900s. The tub has a shower. STAIRS: Please note that "The Commodore Suite" is on the third floor. The historic staircase in the central hall that accesses the suite has a gentle rise with 3 landings for resting. There are fire escapes for emergency egress. PRICING: We try to offer the experience of living in a grand historic home while keeping prices reasonable. We are always working on improving the spaces and restoring various parts of the mansion, though never at an inconvenience to guests. We have many returning guests who are always excited to see the latest improvements and restoration projects. While the apartment may accommodate up to 4 guests, it's priced for 2. Each extra guest will be charged $25/night. OCCUPANCY RESTRICTIONS: For safety and liability reasons only primary guests are allowed in the suite and house without the owner’s permission. If you are meeting friends in town, there is a nice restaurant, bar, and public lobby with comfortable seating just steps from the front door. Please ask and we can direct you. There is also seating in the mansion's marble entry hall for guests to wait near the front door for rides and food deliveries. The gorgeous park out front is also a great gathering spot before a night on the town. LARGER GROUPS: If you have more than 4 guests, we have additional listings in the mansion which can be combined to accommodate up to 8 guests traveling together! Please inquire before booking. We find this is perfect way to accommodate entire families for graduations and weddings, etc. Guest access Guests have access to the whole 2 bedroom/1 bath suite which includes private parlor, dining room, foyer, kitchen, and bathroom. The suite is located on the 3rd floor of a 19th-century owner-occupied mansion. Guests have direct access to the magnificent parks and gardens just outside the main front door of the house. Other things to note This private suite is located on the third floor of a historic 5-story walk-up building (no elevator). Guests comment that the stairs are gentle to climb and there are large landings with seating along the way! Our standard Check-in time is 3pm-9pm. From time to time, we may be able to accommodate a later Check-in time for a convenience fee of $40. Our standard Check-out time is noon. We can have your laundry done for a fee. Please ask.
