Bring shoes you can wear in the water because it’s very rocky. There is also great hiking that lead to places to swim within Mohonk Preserves or Lake Minnewaska State Park. With Lake Minnewaska, You can go to the large lake from the upper parking lot or visit many smaller streams and swimming places from the lower parking lot. There Is also a swimming hole guide through the website- visit vortex Hudson Valley. There is also Tinker Street Tubing... up in Phoenicia…it’s great fun and a way to cool off floating down the river. Bring shoes that you can walk around in the water because it’s all rocky. This summer is all about being local so if swimming is your thing.. go early or late because you aren't alone in wanting to cool down in water... There is a beach on the Hudson River in Kingston and there are so many rivers, streams and lakes around, you will be finding your perfect spots all over the place. One beautiful place to swim but not as nice for hanging out is Lake Oneonta right off Rt 28. The lake is deep and big and so cool down under by your toes. Again, wear shoes, perhaps even bring a blow up ring to float around. You can leave your towel on the edge by one of the camp areas or hike along to find a more secluded spot.
