This isn't just a rental — it's a retreat into nature. Our property is set on beautiful wooded acreage where moss-covered paths wind through towering trees, curious fungi dot the forest floor, and the air feels different (fresh!) the moment you arrive. Wander to a quiet forest sit spot and simply be still. Walk the labyrinth and let your thoughts settle. There's something here for those who need to slow down and reconnect — with nature, and with themselves. Lake Michigan, Ludington and Hamlin Lake are just minutes away, but you may find you don't want to leave the woods. THE SPACIOUS CABIN: You will have access to the UPPER LEVEL ONLY - a spacious 1400 square feet! You will enter through the front door of the Lower Level into a large entryway. Stairs lead to the Upper Level. A ramp at the back of the house provides ease for those who have difficulty with stairs. With all the windows, you may feel you are in a lovely treehouse! Enjoy an open floor plan (livingroom, dining area, kitchen), 3 separate bedrooms, and one full bath. Light-filled, sparkling clean, clutter-free and comfortable. You may notice a small private cabin tucked away on the property, which may be used by us. It's got its own separate parking area, designed to be completely out of your way. You will have privacy in the main house and will not be sharing it with us or others during your stay. Your privacy is always our top priority. NEW in 2026: mini-split air conditioning to keep the space comfortable during warmer months. In addition, each bedroom has a ceiling fan; the living area has two ceiling fans. Kitchen extras: classic-style drip coffee maker, French press, electric hot water kettle, toaster, hand mixer, blender, and slow cooker. All the essentials to cook and serve your own meals. Bring your comfy slippers, house shoes, or indoor flip-flops. To keep floors clean and comfortable for you, we kindly request guests remove shoes at the door. The house is smoke-free. If you smoke outdoors, please place cigarette butts in designated containers. And while we do love pets, this house and property are pet-free. The Ludington Hermitage was built as a place to "retreat." It is a lovely space for contemplative practices (try mindful walking on mossy paths or in the labyrinth, meditation/prayer in the woods or on the decks, nature photography). Many peaceful places for reading, writing, yoga/mindful movement. A rarity in these times: we invite you to enjoy your time away "unplugged" (no TV and no WiFi - however cell phone signal is strong in the area). Take time to really connect (with nature, with family, with friends, with your own inner self) without distractions. Guests say this is like "medicine for the soul." We delight in little touches to help your stay feel special and are looking forward to fresh & new ways to do just that - both inside and outside on the property. NEW in 2026: Air conditioning! Here, nature is close, quiet arrives easily, and space exists for whatever kind of renewal you're seeking — whether that's deep rest, time in the outdoors, or the stillness that invites something deeper. Guest access You have access to the large entry room on the Lower Level, with plenty of hooks for jackets, beach towels, hats, etc. Head up the stairs and you have access to the entire UPPER LEVEL. (There are a few shelves marked "owner's only.") You have access to private walking trails along the property and the campfire area. Other things to note Our cleaning & disinfecting regimen is based on guidelines and recommendations from Airbnb and the CDC. As our reviews reflect, we take great care to offer you a sparkling clean space. Have you wondered how often bedspreads are actually washed at other spaces you have stayed? NO WORRIES here. Bedspreads are laundered after EVERY guest. Additional items you may want to bring: beach towels, sun block, camp/beach chairs, insect repellent, flashlight with extra batteries (starry starry nights!). Being at the beach may require sunblock and walking in the woods may require insect repellent (both of which can be oily). We want to be up front and say if sheets/blankets are stained beyond future use, a $30 fee (per sheet set and/or blanket) will be incurred. A quick shower at the end of the day can help you from incurring a charge. Please NO HAIR DYEING while you are our guests and NO GLITTER OR ITEMS OF A GLITTER NATURE. If this rule is disregarded, any damage/extra cleaning will result in additional fee.
