Steeped in tranquility, this tiny guest cottage is set in wildflower-filled rolling hills in New Ulm, TX. near Round Top/Warrenton venues. Comforts include queen bed, mini-kitchen, private garden shower, porch swing, deck, STARS! The space • The studio-style space is tiny, self-contained and private, and just a short distance from the main farmhouse. It has essentials for cooking, eating, sleeping and deep contemplation--it's more like cozy ship's quarters than a luxury suite. • The "bathroom" is a European-style screened toilet, and the cottage sink serves for washing up. The outdoor, hot-water shower is private. • The mini-kitchen includes a small refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster oven, electric teapot, coffee pot. A charcoal grill is also available for guests' use. • The queen bed is memory foam. • Coffee and tea, creamer, salt & pepper are provided. Guest access • Guests have complete and exclusive access to the cottage. As well, guests are invited to wander around the property and pilfer the garden behind the cottage for veggies or herbs in season. Guests should refrain from entering the fenced-off livestock areas or the barn without permission, and pets are not allow in those areas. Other things to note • NATURE: There is an abundance of wildlife around, and millions of stars in the night sky. Guests should feel free to wander around, even at night, but are reminded that this place is wonderful for those who love nature, so may not be the best place for those who are most comfortable when they are distanced from nature. If you have a specific question about some aspect of the abundant nature, just ask us—we have lots of wildlife and plant life guides to share. • PET GUESTS: We love animals, and pets are very welcome here. We do charge a $10 pet fee to cover the cost of the inevitable extra cleaning needed when we have hosted animal friends, and we have some specific common-sense requirements, such as keeping pets restrained when around the livestock, and using the furniture covers provided to protect the bed and sofa if your pets are accustomed to gettin on the furniture. • FOOTWEAR: Covered footwear is encouraged--stickers do find their way onto the property, and grass can be taller than the typical manicured suburban lawn, and could be at the stage of making seed heads, the seeds of which at least one guests mistook for fleas (apparently not noticing that the so-called "fleas" did not move) . Also, we are required to inform our guests that, as this is the country, various other less-than-welcome inhabitants of the Texas countryside could be present on the property (for example, ants, bees, frogs and toads, wasps, raccoons, caterpillars, spiders, opossums, snakes, house flies, armadillos, bark scorpions (which have a sting similar to a honeybee, but not as long-lasting), bats, turtles, and other species that may not be welcome to some). Oddly (and happily), mosquitoes seemed to give our place a miss most of the time. • NON-HUMAN RESIDENTS: There are two cats (nominally) on the premises, one of which you'll probably never see (shy). The other feels it's his duty to greet guests. There is also a small (very) but mighty canine protector, who is making the transition from a sad little stray to a super-doggie who loves everyone. • NOISE: It is generally blissfully quiet around here, However, there is a train track down the road a ways, so the occasional train horn is heard (but quickly goes away). Also, the cows in the next pasture sometimes feel the need to MOO, loudly. In the spring, the frogs down in the pond tend to sing joyfully and lustily, as do the birds. • WI-FI. Regarding wifi access, according to the speed test, our dl speed is typically between 13.6 and 14 bps, which is characterized as "snappy" to "high speed" wifi by Airbnb. Our guests, have used the cottage for things like long-distance learning classes, streaming movies, video chats, business meetings, etc. However, given the number of variables that can affect telecommunications, we are not able to guarantee perfect quality connectivity 100% of the time. • FOOD: Our urban guests should note that eating establishments out here are relatively few as compared to the city, and some keep "country" hours, so we recommend that guests plan ahead for meals, keeping in mind that the cottage does have a fairly complete kitchen, including a small freezer.
