A Cottage in the Clouds is a quiet haven with 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths where you can get away from the chaos of the freeway and enjoy the serenity and scenery from the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway. A Cottage in the Clouds is a great place to put your feet up on the front porch, listen to the wildlife and watch the clouds go by. Fancy Gap is known for the fog that sits in the valley, and our cottage frequently finds itself in the fog – which gives the place a true feeling of tranquility. Fortunately, the sun often burns the fog off and we enjoy crystal clear skies and mountain breezes, too! Our little cottage is in the sleepy little neighborhood of Alpine Crest. The neighborhood is located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway between mile makers 193 & 194. You are located 90 miles to Boone, NC, 90 miles to Roanoke, VA, and many more attractions along the parkway. So, whether you are a bicyclist, motorcyclist, or just cruising the parkway our cottage is a wonderful place to stay. A little about the cottage: We offer you about 1200 feet of living space but before you enter, you’ll notice the front porch with outdoor furniture. This is a great place to enjoy a cup of morning coffee or an adult beverage in the evening while you watch the clouds go by. As you enter the space it’s divided by the eating area with a six top table and a cozy sitting room with two leather chairs facing a gas fire stove. Just past the sitting area you’ll find a full bathroom and the stairway up to the master loft. The master loft has a queen size bed, sitting chair and a dresser for you to unload your belongings. Downstairs is the kitchen with all the cooking essentials you will need to make meals. Either bring food from home or shop at the local Food Lion in Hillsville, VA. Also located downstairs is the second full bath and bedroom. This bedroom has a queen size bed, dresser and a closet for hanging clothes. Our favorite room in the house is the newly added sunroom, nicely furnished with an oversize leather recliner, a large comfy sofa, a table for two and a big screen tv. Just off the sunroom is a deck with a grill and a table with 4 chairs. We recommend having dinner out there and watching the deer walk through with woods. During your stay, head to the side of the house where we have straps ready to hang the hammock (located in the sunroom) to enjoy the cool mountain air during the day or gaze at the stars in the evening. If you are feeling lucky and think you can catch old man bass, bring your fishing gear and head down to the Alpine Crest community pond located on Volunteer Rd. Once dinner is over and before it gets too dark outside, head out into the woods to collect timber for the fire pit. Now that the fire is blazing and the stars are overhead you must make some Smores over the fire pit. Places nearby the cottage: Fancy Gap is a very small town but the gas station and the Dollar General will keep you covered for the basics. We also recommend dining at the Gap Deli, located on Hwy 52. Hillsville is about 20 minutes from the Cottage, and has a Food Lion as well as some other options for dining. We both enjoy Pizza Perfect and The Mason Jar, but there are plenty of other restaurants worth exploring. Galax is about 30 minutes to the west, and it offers a cute downtown as well as more dining options. The Twisted Fork is our favorite restaurant in the region – they make their own pasta and have delicious Italian food. Mt. Airy is about 25 minutes south – There is plenty to do and see in the historic Mayberry downtown area! The surrounding area is known as the Yadkin Valley, and you can definitely enjoy some time sampling wine all over this region. You’ll find some brochures and travel info for Mt. Airy and the Yadkin Valley in the magazine rack in the Sunroom, and under the TV in the front Living Room. What’s next…………… Book the cottage! Then, you will receive an email from us detailing the house rules. Look them over and reply back to us that you understand the house rules. We will send you the key code for the front door 24 hours before your stay. This can be used during your stay but is cleared out 1 hour after you check out. We will be available by Airbnb messenger or phone for any questions you may have! Our neighborhood is just off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, making it a quiet retreat just miles away from Mt. Airy, a number of wineries, orchards, The Flea Market in Hillsville, Bluegrass music in Galax or Floyd. There's lots to do and explore in the region - or you can kick back and enjoy the porch or the sunroom and escape a bit. You'll need a car for travel. Be sure to explore the Blue Ridge Parkway! Pets are welcomed in our home on a per-case basis. Please send a description and photo through Airbnb messenger for us to approve before booking. Two pet maximum!! There is NO fence on the property, so your dog/dogs must be leashed and not unattended when outside. Please pick up after your pet and dispose of the waste in the outside trash can located next to the storage building. Any damages, pet stains, or just irresponsibility of the pet owner will equate to us submitting an AirCover claim.
