Art House/Light House
Perched on a hill, private, beautiful live-work art space overlooking the Columbia River with views to the sea. Airy, open, loft w. 2 bedroom suites. Studio, laundry, decks, yard/deck below house, 4 blocks to downtown & river. 33 steps up to the house from the street! Two night minimum. Cat is on premises. Short bio for your profile needed for booking. I can only book 6 months ahead because of life-work issues, but you can message me with dates for wait-list. There is an open floor plan with big kitchen, vintage stove and fridge, furniture on pads and wheels to make the space flexible and cozy. Both bedrooms have queen size beds with excellent mattresses, each with its own bathroom. The couch folds into a single bed. Lots of space and room for privacy as well as openness, light, and views that are awesome. Designed to feel warm and inviting with a minimal amount of "stuff" to keep the focus on nature and imagination. Great for retreats. This is my home, and I love to share the beauty. Heads up--you have to climb steps up to this space-- 35 steps total--which is why the view is spectacular. Street parking. I have an independent outdoor, indoor cat named Capone, with his own door. I leave directions-- basically easy care--guests fill his water and food bowls twice a day. He is big spirit who likes to hang out with people, so if you have cat allergies, this is not a good fit. PLEASE NOTE: Monthly and weekly rentals are 6 months out because of live-work issues. Please let me know if you have a month or week in mind (if it is beyond 6 months), and I can put you on a wait list and be in touch. Thank you for understanding. You will have access to a key and directions for the house inside. Astoria is charming, hilly, victorian, eccentric, and Bohemian. Walking the neighborhoods is great fun. The place is infused with freshness, history, moody skies. Galleries and restaurants line the downtown streets, and the River Walk goes up and down the river for 8 miles (trolley or bike or walk). In 15 minutes you are at a magnificent beach or poking along a back road of lushness and funky spots and places to launch a kayak. Three rivers empty into the Columbia. Great Maritime Museum, history museums, and there are excellent coffee shops, breakfast spots, happy hour, pub food, dinner options. There is a bus that goes past my house. And bus systems that go up and down the coast. Amtrak runs a bus to and from Portland twice daily. There is an Enterprise car rental place. Kayak rentals at Pier 39. Natural beauty abounds. I will have maps of the area--beaches, hikes, etc. + restaurant lists. The food here is exceptional. Great food co-op, fresh fish off the boats (will include map to fish market). Easy, beautiful kitchen. Everything in the loft-living room is on wheels or moveable for your creative imagination. House is recently renovated, designed as a flex-space for people to enjoy. New furnace, roof, windows, so the place is super cozy, minimal, and well-designed.
