In the words of a guest: "We were surrounded by lush greens, fresh air, and beautiful scenery. Waking up to the birds singing, and going to bed with a sky full of stars". When possible we offer early check in and late check out. We are a pet friendly Airbnb. We strive to accommodate those who love to cook with many kitchen amenities. A ChargePoint CPH50Hardwire L23 Level2 EV charging device using a 220-240 volt outlet and a dedicated circuit provides a fast charge and is available upon request. The space Welcome to our Airbnb; a 1969 architect designed mid-century modern (MCM) home with unique features, among others, a central commons area, redwood structural accents throughout, and a circular opening to the library. It is set on a grassy granite knoll on more than 3 acres in a secluded green oasis located, as the crow flies, less than 1 mile to the Atlantic Coast. We make an effort to maintain its original MCM character, though modernizing where necessary. It stretches itself out mostly on one story and has many windows and skylights that provide natural light from sunrise to sunset. The flow of the house allows guests to congregate in the center common rooms or seek privacy in their bedrooms. Two rooms are upstairs; the library and a bedroom. Heading south from the main entry you come to the kitchen with space for several people to work together. Next comes the dining area with its original MCM dining table and china cabinet with the circular opening to the library above. At the far end of the living room we have a Tulikivi Finnish wood burning fireplace and here our large German COR Concetta seating couch and Italian FLEXFORM ottoman. A 32" HD LG Smart TV and BOSE SOLO SOUNDBAR SERIES II sit on an original MCM side table. The space leading up to the fireplace has two additional dining tables, one with foldable leaves made long ago from reclaimed dock wood, and a daybed. Directly off of the dining area to the south is the sunroom with an Italian FLEXFORM Gary Sofabed and a round claw foot dining table. It is a beautiful space in which to do your morning yoga and watch the sun rise to the east for two of the walls of the sunroom are glass sliding doors. The east wall slider opens onto the main flagstone terrace where we have a propane bbq grill, dining table, and seating. A second flagstone terrace faces south west. Here we have a fire pit and chairs to sit in to gather round the fire and watch the sun set in the west. This terrace adjoins the wooden deck accessed from bedroom two. A second west facing wooden deck is at the main entryway. It is located on a cul-de-sac leading to Quonochontaug Pond in South County Rhode Island with its 100 miles of coastline. For some suggestions of beaches you might like to visit a good place to start looking is on the Southcountryri online site. Go to Beaches and Towns/Beaches and then choose the location that you wish to visit that day. From our Airbnb home it is a short drive to many of the area's beautiful beaches. Less than 2 miles away is The Dune's Beach. Further along Atlantic Avenue there are many public parking lots, the biggest being Misquamicut State Beach. If you are interested in visiting any of Rhode Island's 8 State beaches you might like to purchase a Season Pass which the State sells online for a very reasonable price and which is valid at all 8 State beaches. At their online site (go to riparks and then to beaches) . In Watch Hill there is East Beach and Napatree Point. Heading east is Charlestown Breachway, next Blue Shutters Town Beach followed by Rhode Island's 3 mile long East Beach in Charlestown. As the crow flies we are less than 0,4 miles to Quonochontaug Pond, and less than 1 mile to the Atlantic coast line. Being this close to the Atlantic Ocean allows us to benefit from the cooling effect the ocean provides in the warm months every evening as the sun sets. The hot air rises from the land and is replaced by the much cooler northern Atlantic ocean air. Even a short distance further inland this effect no longer is felt. So our air is wonderfully cleaned and also cooled in the warm months by the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. Nature's perfect air conditioner. In the cold months the northern Atlantic allows the temperature to stay warmer at our Airbnb home than even a little bit further inland. No worries of respiratory diseases that man made mechanical "air conditioners" that are not regularly and adequately maintained can cause from dirty AC filters that allow pollutants like bacteria, mold, dust, and viruses to circulate. Our Airbnb home plus our home, which is on the lot below, are on 6.39 acres with a small stream running along the edge through the woods which empties into Quonochontaug Pond within a dark skies area. Much of the land on the other side of our road is held by, or has public land trust easements on it. If you look on Google Maps you will see our green oasis. So we are in a very unique location in the woods, but very close to the salt water lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. The wildlife love our area and there are an abundance living here such as coyote, bobcat, wild turkey, deer, red fox, hawk, owl, song birds, humming bird, seagull, monarch butterfly, chipmunk, squirrel, raccoon, opossum, mink, beaver, skunk, badger, wood chuck, New England cottontail, black bear, and many more. Guest access Guests of our Airbnb home have access to our Airbnb home, two decks, two flagstone terraces, three acres of outdoor space composed of yards and woody areas, a stream running through the brush, some big erratics left by the last glacier, and the right of way to Quonochontaug Pond, a 3.2 mile salt water lagoon. The right of way to the salt water pond is about a five minute walk. Please make sure to read the description to the right of way before setting out so that you find your way. You can find this in the house binder that is on the small hutch in the entryway area. It is best to wear water shoes for at the pond it is mucky and rocky. From here you can launch your kayak or paddle board or other small craft that you might have brought along. There are shops in the area that rent out kayaks, paddle boards, and bicycles if you prefer to rent equipment. It is beautiful to paddle on the three salt water ponds comprising Quonochontaug Pond. In the first and third ponds is a good place to dig for clams, especially on the beach side where the pond has soft sand washed over from the beach. The second pond is closed to shellfishing for it is a seeding pond. During the warm months of the year the outside shower is turned on. Other things to note Many appliance manuals, Frigidaire Induction range, Bosch refrigerator freezer, Bosch dishwasher, Kitchenaid microwave, and Honeywell Thermostat (north end thermostat located in bedroom 4) are in the kitchen in the upper cabinet behind the swinging door leading to the dining area. Other small appliance manuals can be found in the large appliance drawer and in the coffee drawer. Manuals to the Tulikivi wood burning fireplace are in the 2nd drawer of the MCM sideboard near to the Tulikivi. Instructions for the LG Smart TV and BOSE SOLO SOUNDBAR SERIES II are in the top drawer of the sideboard. Instructions for lighting the gas Bbq grill are in the Bbq grill utensil drawer in the kitchen to the left of the bar sink. Each bedroom and the common rooms have portable Dyson fans that are set out only in the warmer months. An iron and an ironing board is in each bedroom. A hair dryer is in each bathroom. An LG Smart TV and BOSE SOLO SOUNDBAR SERIES II is in the Fireplace section of the living room. 10 Yoga mats are in the sunroom. For our groups of guests with young visitors we have a crib, 2 Tripp Trapp high chairs, Baby Jogger which works very well in the sand or forest with its big bicycle wheels, a wooden rocker boat to play with, a few children's books to read, as well as children's plates and glasses. There is a package of outlet protectors in the cabinet in the dining room which you can use to put into any particular outlets during your stay. We strive to accommodate guests who love to cook. The kitchen has counter top work space on all 4 walls. There are two sinks; the main one at the bay window, and a bar sink on the other side. The baker's corner has a marble countertop. We supply good cooking knives. There are different options for cooking pots and pans; stainless steel and iron. The kitchen is furnished with the following electrical appliances: Bosch refrigerator/freezer with ice and water, Bosch dishwasher, Frigidaire Induction electric range, Kitchenaid above range microwave, Kitchenaid 4 slice toaster, Kitchenaid 4,5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer, Kitchenaid 3 speed ice crushing blender, Kitchenaid 11 cup food processor, Kitchenaid 3.5 cup food chopper, Kitchenaid 12 cup drip coffee maker, Krups spice grinder, Kitchenaid espresso machine, Kitchenaid Burr coffee grinder, Nespresso Aeroccino3 Milk Frother, Nespresso Virtuo POP+ Capsule coffee maker, Kitchenaid 1.5 liter electric kettle, Kitchenaid hand blender, Kitchenaid hand mixer. Please take a look at the photos in "additional photos" for photos of much of our kitchen equipment. In the living room there is a Hardman Upright Piano. A few music note books are in the piano seat bench. In the walk-in closet room you will find bath and beach towels for your use during your visit. The beds are prepared with sheets, always 100 percent cotton. Each bed has pillows, a cover and blanket. A comforter for each bed is set out during the colder months. The dining room table seats eight comfortably, or ten closely seated. Additional tables and chairs are in the living room spaces. On the south west facing sunset terrace we have a spinable fire pit. Fire wood and paper for the wood burning stove is available for guest's use. Fire wood is below the south terrace, and paper in the cabinet to the right of the wood burning stove where there is also a bucket for collecting the wood.
