Lovely 18th-century cottage on our vibrant farm 50 minutes North of NYC. Excellent base for exploring the City & the lower Hudson Valley, or for visiting the area for a work or family event. Inspiring & grounding space for working from home, an ideal retreat for artists & writers! NOTE: Maximum occupancy is 1 couple or 2 individuals. Gatherings w/extra people for the day are not possible. We do not allow children under 12, cottage isn't set up for kids & our property isn't suitable for them. The space While The Cottage was built as a barn in the mid 1700's, it is now a beautiful, cozy and unique home. With its open floor-plan and many singular vintage details, it's a delightful space full of warmth and character for a restorative and inspiring getaway! Perfect for a couple or individual with one bathroom and one lovely, loft-like open bedroom upstairs with a very comfortable queen bed. There is also a lovely twin bed tucked under the eaves. The large open space at the top of the stairs has a lovely rug and is a serene spot for yoga, stretching and exercising. Well-equipped kitchen is a pleasure to cook in. Cozy living room/dining room with super comfy sofa and lots of books, puzzles and games to enjoy while sitting in front of the cheerful gas stove :) Single bathroom downstairs has a clawfoot tub with shower and shower hose. Please note that The Cottage is not suitable for those with joint issues or limited mobility as the bathtub requires stepping high to get up over the side and into it and the bedroom is on the second floor and accessed by a staircase (there is no bathroom upstairs). Also note that due to the bedroom upstairs being an open loft, it gets much warmer than downstairs during the heating season. Therefor the thermostat is not a set-and-forget type and guests will actively need to adjust the thermostat in the AM and then again in the PM before bed, or as needed. We go over this in detail with guests at check-in time. There's lots of beautiful outdoor space with a patio with small bistro table and 2 chairs, a picnic table and a teak set of table and chairs on the adjacent lawn, and 2 sun loungers. We have a grill available upon request. There is plenty of lawn space and areas to walk and explore on the farm. We have had pet chickens here continuously for over 40 years and we have eggs available for guests to purchase if they wish, from our hens who eat the finest quality Certified-Organic soy-free grain available and forage happily outside:) We're always glad to give guests a little tour of the farm if they like! The Cottage is simple and down to earth while having everything you need for a very comfortable and relaxing stay. The general feeling here is easy going, natural and grounding. We love to share our antique and unique little cottage with others and to be able to provide a truly beautiful, nurturing environment for anyone who's seeking some r&r and/or a peaceful space to do their creative work. We hope you'll come stay and experience the magic of this particular sweet spot on planet earth! :-) Guest access The first and second floor (whole interior) of the private cottage is available for guests. The basement (accessed from outside only) is accessible for use of laundry machines only. There's a gas grill for outdoor cooking available if guests wish to use, and an outdoor table and chairs. There is a metal fire pit that we can set up for you when conditions are right for a campfire. There's ample space to walk around outside. Other things to note The Cottage is located in the middle of our farm, which is a lively place with various farm work potentially happening throughout the day and our 3 large dogs running around outside:) While the farm is a very peaceful place in general, during daylight hours you can expect there will be various activities going on outside, with occasional noise. The cottage has wonderful character-- it was built before the Revolutionary War-- and of course some quirkiness! It's not fancy, but it's very well equipped and deeply comfortable and has been a nurturing, restorative place for many guests through the decades. Since it is a loft and the heat rises, it gets much hotter on the second floor. Therefore the heating is not set and forgot and you must activity adjust the thermostat at night before bed and in the AM to your liking. We will give you instructions for this at checkin time. The Wifi is great for working from home with Verizon FIOS, approx 100mb/s, and there's a large desk and comfortable office chair. We provide a variety of teas and local honey for our guests to enjoy. The kitchen is stocked with some spices and cooking basics. There is a 42" Samsung Smart TV and guests can connect to their own streaming accounts if they wish (Apple TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, HBO etc.) We use all natural, non-toxic cleaning products and laundry detergent as well as 100% post-consumer recycled paper goods. Guests are welcome to compost in the bin provided if they like and we'll add it to our current pile! We have a lifetime of knowledge about the local area and can answer any questions guests have. We have local hiking guidebooks for Westchester and the lower Hudson River Valley and there are several parks with walking trails within 5 minutes of us. Please send us a note if you have any questions about the cottage inside or out!
