There are four 100 year old sharecropper homes, three of which are listed on Airbnb. We also have 7 new homes designed in a similar style listed on Airbnb. All are located on a private road facing the Mississippi River levee. Mound City was named by the early settlers for the Indian Mounds located on this property. It was an important river town for east - west trade during the late 1700s and 1800s. Mound City was burned by Federal troops in in 1863, but remained an important trading town until the Harahan bridge was finished in 1892. The Harahan Bridge now accommodates a spectacular pedestrian and bicycle crossing connecting Arkansas and Tennessee, and is easily accessible from the house. The Commissary at Mound City was featured as a honky tonk, in scenes of the movie "Great Balls of Fire", featuring Dennis Quaid as Jerry Lee Lewis. Our guests are welcome to walk, jog or bicycle these roads when they are dry. Our dogs love long walks and get much needed exercise on this farm! The local retriever trainers use the lake across the road and just south of the house to train their Labrador, Chesapeake and Golden retrievers.
