Irvington Neighborhood Features Portland’s Irvington neighborhood cannot be easily characterized. On its southern border is a sizeable strip of restaurants, bars, coffee houses, personal service establishments, and shop after shop. In this section of Irvington is the array between bars and shops with expensive lingerie. Irvington’s northern border is primarily residential, but where commercialism pops through tends to be high-end. And on its east and west sit two large parks. In between? Well, this is the kind of neighborhood for which people enter the American dream. The houses, each unique and almost all attractive with their ancient trees and flowing green lawns, seem the picture of Americana that we agreed to when we entered the game. The children playing seem palpably blessed to have this as their foundation. And driving through you can almost hear the promise of a simpler country and a simpler time if we just hold onto neighborhoods like it. Several grand dame old homes are located here, and many are on the National Register of Historic Places. Back when they were constructed, Irvington homes were considered upper middle class. The sense of Irvington history can be found in more than just the homes. The exclusive Irvington Club for tennis was founded in 1898. And, if you pay attention while strolling the streets, you’ll notice many sidewalks imprinted with the original craftsman’s name and date (”E. Wiles 1908”) and you’ll even find an occasional metal ring still attached to the curb, from back in the days when everyone had horses to tie up instead of automobiles to park. Like any neighborhood that has been around since the turn of the last century, Irvington has suffered from periodic slumps over the years. Some houses fell into disrepair, and here and there a house was demolished and replaced with a “modern” mid-century apartment or commercial building. But overall, if you enjoy historic charm and unique homes with fine character and craftsmanship, you’ll love Irvington. Other things to note BEST WAYS TO SAVE ESPECIALLY IF YOUR DATES ARE FLEXIBLE! Book In Advance: (at least 6-8 months to a year) and you get the standard rates vs. the seasonally adjusted rates. (Does not apply for the highest seasons, i.e. summer/holidays.) Book Last Minute Available Dates for the Current Month: We sell out monthly but sometimes a month that does not sell, i.e. due to a cancellation. These dates are up to 65% off. My calendar is up to date and live. Join Cancellation Deals List: We try to help guests get a refund by booking a last-minute cancellation. Just email me and I can notify you when I have a cancellation. Book Non-high Season or Non-Holiday Weekends or Weeks. This is a tough one because Portland, Oregon is a vacation destination all year with special events scheduled year-round. The less busy months tend to be non-holiday weeks, events, or graduation weeks of Oct., Jan., Feb., May with great weather. Invite Your Friends and Family to Save More Per Person. My houses sleep 24 guests and splitting the fix rates by 24 the maximum guests you all will pay less per person and enjoy super savings per person especially over hotels who can not accommodate larger numbers. Bottom line vacation homes verses hotels save you money on meals and drinks as you don't have to go out to eat three meals a day. And hotels charge more tax, parking, internet, movies, etc. See the link below on all the advantages; (URL HIDDEN) Just text us for the best days to book for the largest savings. Yes, we would love to host your doggies on your family and friends’ home away from home! As they are your best friends! My “Portlandia” (Sleeps 25) home is ideal for pets: Enclosed Backyard - With grass to run and play with chairs, dining table, benches and BBQ Front Yard - The front yard has a yard/garden, a patio, but not enclosed. Blocks to Parks - We are one block from the Elementary School and blocks from Grant Park where friendly neighbors take dogs. Dogs must be on a leash and you must clean up but I always see dogs chasing tennis balls. The daily rent is $25 per day and a $75+tax hypoallergenic cleaning (+mandatory tax) so guests who are allergic to pets may enjoy the home too. Pet owners agree to NOT leave out dog food inside and outside and to clean the waste up immediately for sanitary reasons. My housekeeper will charge you $5 per pile fee to clean up after your dog. I also can provide doggie (and baby) sitting for approximately $50 per day. We’d love to host the entire family. Enjoy!
