Description
The year was 1946 and somebody in Twentynine Palms had the right idea--to build an adorable Spanish bungalow that simply oozed "romantic getaway to the desert," a place to take in the fresh air, the stillness at night and the stars. "Josh" as he is affectionately known, along with his partner "Tam" [an almost identical twin] is an updated version of that bungalow built so long ago. Modern in amenities, but pioneer in spirit, Josh is awaiting some special guests. The space The Poetry: Josh is a dream space, waiting to be explored, one where the past meets the future. Cozy, inviting, warm and intriguing, he invites you to replenish your creative side, to engage in some R+R, and to enjoy the wide open spaces of Twentynine Palms, Wonder Valley and JT National Park. It’s a place to look inwards as much as you look outwards. We invite you to enjoy the cozy and colorful intimacy of the space as much as we do. “What draws us into the desert is the search for something intimate in the remote." ~Edward Abbey The Nuts-N-Bolts: Josh clocks in with 555 generous square feet of living space, with a large main room + cozy twin bed sized nook with plentiful pillows (perfect for a third guest bed, or just relaxing and reading), original vaulted beam ceilings, a modern leather sofa, a vintage Takeshi Nii Ny chair + a vintage Plycraft chair and ottoman. The walls feature lots of vintage and original art pieces. *Note: If you'd like to use the nook as a second bed, please let us know in advance so that we can leave sheets, pillows and extra blankets to accommodate you. There is a mini-split A/C unit on the living room wall.. It’s easy to operate—there is an “on/off” switch, a “mode” button for either A/C (the snowflake icon) or heat (the sun icon). There’s also a fan icon if you just want to re-circulate air. The up and down arrows adjust the temp. Voila! To the left of the living area is the kitchen/dining area. It features a cozy built-in dining nook with cushioned seating (look behind the cushions for outlets to plug in your computer), and a vintage green enameled work table that can be cranked up or down, depending on your needs. (We like to enjoy the everything bagels from Campbell Hill Bakery while sitting here in our pj’s, but I digress). The kitchen has open shelving, complete with plates, platters, mugs, bowls, wine + water glasses, S+P shakers, a good selection of spices, and olive oil. Silverware, pots and pans, a wine opener and most basic cooking and food prep utensils are also supplied. The 4 burner gas range with oven does the trick, and there’s a range hood for ventilation and illumination. There’s also a garbage disposal (round white button to the right of the sink will turn it on—make sure the water is running), a dishwasher (pods under the sink) and apartment sized refrigerator with just enough room to hold your perishables. There is a Nespresso mini coffee maker with enough pods for 2 cups of coffee per person per day and a milk frother—so hey, the first few lattes of the day are covered, as well as a toaster and electric kettle. To the right of the main room is the bedroom. It features a queen bed, wall mount reading lights, nightstands w/ usb outlets, customized 29 Palms blanket, and Josh pillows, organic cotton sheets and duvet, and plenty of cushiness. It also features a mini-split unit for cooling or heating. There’s a console with several drawers for smaller items, a full length mirror, and a clothing rack, perfect for storing bags and hanging clothing. The bathroom features custom labeled Josh towels, bath mats and washcloths, a stall shower w/ shampoo, conditioner and body wash, a blow dryer and sink with large mirror and overhead light. Outdoor spaces: There is a small patio with Adirondack chairs adjacent to the front door, perfect for a quick cocktail or evening de-brief after a fun night at Kitchen in the Desert. Just outside the back door a tranquil, private patio with pergola and hot tub await. There’s a reclaimed wood table for dining, and several cushioned lounge chairs and a low sofa for relaxing. There’s also a charcoal grill (bring your own briquettes) and a fire pit. The environment is peaceful and relaxing, perfect for lounging, cooking out or enjoying the night air. Josh is located in a quiet family neighborhood, and is not conducive to loud music or parties—please enjoy yourselves, but if you’re looking for a raucous party spot where you can go crazy, this isn’t it. Lol. We like to be loud too—but not at Josh. Josh is accessible through a key pad code, which will be provided upon booking! Guest access Parking is in the driveway, to the left of the house. One of the great things about Josh is that you don’t to be in your car to get around. Also, there is a gate to the adjoining property down the pathway at the front of the house. . It leads to the back yard of the other house on site. We ask that you are respectful, don’t enter the other guests area! Please. You can easily walk to all of Twentynine Palms’ burgeoning social scene. By this we mean Ramsey 29 Motel (you may have friends staying there!), Kitchen in the Desert (fantastic cocktails, food + events), Campbell Hill Bakery (yummy baked goods, soups, sandwiches) , Grnd Squirrel (beers, great food), High Desert Daydream (cute boutique), The Out There Bar (divey hipness with a great vintage shuffleboard table), White Vinyl (LPs + neat vintage clothes), Jelly Donut (scrumptious donuts in the am, great Pho at other day parts). I’m also partial to the “Bowladium” for bowling, nachos, and Jäegermeister on tap. I’ll put all of these locales in the Guidebook for y’all. You can also walk to the Visitor’s Center for Park info, to the Twentynine Palms Historical Center Museum, and to the new Freedom Plaza, 29 Palms new Civic Center—it’s only a block away. Pretty much every fast food place + Starbucks is also nearby, as well as AM/PM and 7-11. So yes, you are in civilization and won’t starve. There are also scooters for rent throughout town. Other things to note House Rules: -No smoking, please. -No fires in the fireplace, please! -Sorry, but we do not allow pets. -We ask that there is quiet after 10 pm. We are in a neighborhood and sound travels. -Please be respectful of the property and its environs.
