Description
Take it easy at this cosy and unique lake house. Our space is a characterful private house, hidden away in the wee slice of paradise where the Waiau River meets Lake Manapouri. Nestled beside our cute campground/lodge and tucked under a breathtaking Beech forest. Beautiful birds fill the trees above. Wonderous walks extend in all directions, from the doorstep. Humble and comfy, Tui House was built by local legends in the 70s. The space We're surrounded by lush native bush/forest, beside a cute wee campground. The home is distinctly and uniquely 1970's. Guest should expect cozy, comfy, old fashioned, and family-home style visitor accommodation. The 4 bedrooms have various shape, size and character. Each has a comfy bed (or beds), a bedside table, a lamp and electric blankets. The kitchen is equipped with oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, toaster, jug, microwave, and all the basics. The adjoined dining space has a table and chairs looking out over the bird garden, while the living room has cool old chairs, a leather couch, coffee table, book case, a stunning chiffonier and a panoramic bush view. The scenic bathroom has plentiful space, a heater, and a roomy shower. Toilet is adjacent with a separate door. Our entrance space includes another leather couch and a great fireplace. There is unlimited wood to heat the home, as well as a heat pump. Tui Retreat has a fenced front lawn area and a flower garden wrapped around the rear. There is 1 private carport and an additional shared parking space also available. For reservations of just 1 or 2 guests, the whole property is still private just for you and we would recommend to take the upstairs bedroom(s) adjacent to the dining/kitchen/lounge space. Groups/families of 3 to 5 guests can choose to also occupy the downstairs bedrooms. Our retreat home is limited to 5 guests, but we do have additional accommodation options available. Special requests are welcome for larger groups :) Guest access Front access is via the lakeside driveway gates and rear access is via a hidden riverside bush gate. Other things to note The driveway is fine for the average car, but may be a bit challenging for very large vehicles. There is room for 3 cars in a shared park beside the home, and also plentiful parking on the roadside. The staircase is spiral style and may be challenging for guests with limited mobility. Groups with children are 100% welcome, but please note to take care on the spiral staircase. For any onsite requests/questions, our guests our welcome to pop over to the reception desk at our neighbour property, Possum Lodge. They have an abundance of info to share about exploring the local area, walks, kayaks, fishing, and booking trips to Doubtful Sound etc.
