Time for a quiet retreat to the country. Winter is here! Good time to hit the hiking trails. (Or just stay cocooned inside!) Here's a totally modern cottage for up to four people for whom camping and even our Hayloft Cottage may seem a bit too rustic. The back door opens up to a porch and a spacious 1.5 acres of fenced-in area (shared with Hayloft dog owners and our mutts), perfect for your four-footed friends (dogs only; limit 2). The space Daughter Amy lived in this cottage when she grew lovely flowers up on the hill for sale in the city. She has a daughter of her own now, so her special place is now available to share with others. Amy's Place is a small, comfy cottage that shares space with the main house, the barn, and several other buildings on what had been a large, 400-acre orchard farm a hundred years ago. It's down to only 15 acres these days and maybe a half-dozen apple and plum trees. But that's plenty of space to enjoy the country scenery. Our pond is soothing to the soul. And it sports large mouth bass, bluegills, redear sunfish, and catfish! Amy's Place is close to Old Rag Mountain, White Oak Canyon, and numerous tasty wineries and breweries. While less than 100 miles from Washington, DC, it seems a world away. Just what you need to recharge your batteries. Guest access Guests are free to wander the property and explore. The attached dog lot is ideal if you've brought your furry friends along (well, unless they're adept at digging under or jumping over the fence!). We also have a fire pit and picnic table behind the cottage for our guests to enjoy. Other things to note If you are here for the hiking, you'll be happy to know we're only about 15' away from Old Rag Ranger Station, 20' from Whiteoak Canyon Lower Falls Trailhead, and 30' from Shenandoah National Park's Thornton Gap entrance.
