Discover the solitude of Old Virginia at Shawnee Farms Estate in this elegant, historic farm home. Located on 159 acres of rolling farmland, the estate is located in the Shenandoah Valley countryside with sweeping views of both the Shenandoah National Park and the George Washington National Forest. The home was built in 1863 and renovated in 2018. It can accommodate up to 16 guests and is just 3 miles from downtown Luray, Luray Caverns and 1 mile from the Shenandoah River. The space The Shawnee were the last Native American tribe to inhabit this area of the Shenandoah Valley before the arrival of the European settlers. Artifacts in the fields of the Shawnee Farms property resulted in the name for this historic estate. The original brick house built in 1863 is near the site of a former log home constructed in 1810. Timbers were used from this demolished structure in the existing house and barn. According to local history, construction on the current house was completed by women as the men were away fighting in the Civil War. An officer’s sword was found hidden in the wall during later renovations. The house has been recently refurbished in keeping with its historic character and grace with a unique blend of antiques, art and modern comforts. A half-mile gated and paved road through the rolling fields provides a private location. The farmhouse is surrounded by a garden with some of the largest boxwoods in Virginia. Amenities include a large kitchen with modern appliances, a formal dining area, lounging room and parlor, Five full bathrooms and two half baths, screened in porches upstairs and downstairs, entertainment room, lighted outdoor tennis court, washer and dryer, and free Wi-Fi. Guest access Guests have access to the entire house. Use of the house is restricted to the immediate grounds. Out buildings, barn and adjacent properties are off limits.
