Description
A small, restful, cottage with a large screen porch, kitchenette, and full bath with hilltop views of a 40-acre pasture. Cows, cattle egrets, sand-hill cranes, and other wildlife are often seen from the cottage porch or kitchen table. There is a $25 pet fee for dogs, Three day minimum stay required. The $10 per day third guest fee waived after 10 days on long term bookings. The space Located near the historic and scenic "Old Florida" villages of Micanopy, Evinston, and McIntosh, this two-room"cottage" looks like an old Southern "tenant farmers shack" with a large screen porch. But it is brand new, with all the modern amenities including satellite TV. The cell phone and WiFi reception are good. One room is a '"great room" with a single and a double bed, end table, chest of drawers, kitchen island, dining table, TV, ceiling fan/ light, and kitchenette. A sliding glass door to the 12 x 24 screen porch where another table offers front porch dining and great views of the back pasture, like those shown in the photos. The other room is a full bathroom with a shower/ tub and a vanity/ sink. You are just a short ride from the Scenic Old Florida villages of McIntosh, Evinston and Micanopy, and several state and county parks. Plenty of back roads, hiking, biking, and fishing opportunities nearby. There are lots of horse farms in the area. The Animal Dynamics Equine Sports Therapy School and the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine are short drives away from the cottage for students who wish to stay in the country and not commute from Gainesville or Ocala The nearby historic village of McIntosh is full of large Victorian homes, with giant oaks and tall palms. There are no strip malls or chain restaurants in McIntosh. Just a scenic village frozen in time like Florida was before the tourist boom started. This is not the Florida of the theme parks and high rise hotels. It is Florida like it used to be. Guest access Guests have the use of the cottage and the fenced yard with outdoor chairs and end tables. They can come and go whenever they please without having to open and close a gate unless they desire to do so. There is room to park next to the cottage for two vehicles. There is a circular driveway around the cottage. Large SUVs and pickup trucks can use it but it is narrow and tight so drive slowly and carefully. RVs and extra vehicles can be parked 60 feet away. Other things to note The wifi is good for most functions with the strongest download speeds on the screen porch where 11 Mbps download speeds are common. Inside the cottage the download speeds are between 3 and 8 Mbps with the higher speeds with the sliding glass door open. The upload speeds are best on the porch but at only 1.2 Mbps. Unfortunately, my provider, Windstream. only gives me 11 Mbps to my place next door via a land line even though I have their high speed modem and booster. There is a $25 dollar pet fee payable upon booking. Dogs only. Cats can climb the screens on the screen porch which ruins the screens. Allergies with cats can be a problem. Dogs must be on a flea program that works. Travel crates are nice for when they are left in the cottage when the guest goes on day trips but not required. The cottage is in a fenced yard and once the entry gate is closed the dogs can be unleashed and will not be able to leave the yard. A new larger hot water heater has been installed as the old one was too small to fill up the bathtub. A new refrigerator has also been added. A new larger AC unit was put in in June and the cottage is well insulated so blankets are provided for those who like to keep it cool at night in the summer A new water treatment system has been installed which has ended the iron water problems from the well. A large Brita filtered water pitcher is also provided for guests, who want to filter the tap water further The kitchenette has utensils provided. A refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, countertop toaster oven, blender, electric skillet, and a double hotplate is provided. There is no full-size oven range or dishwasher due to the small space available in the cottage. A portable, two-tier garment rack will be provided upon request. A fan for the screen porch is provided. For longer stays, fresh bedding and towels will be provided every 10 days. Cleaning materials, broom, mop, etc are provided for the guests to use on longer stays. I clean up and make the beds ONE time per booking. On longer stays, the guests will be expected to make their own beds with the clean bedding provided every 10 days, Clean bath towels, washcloths will also be provided every 10 days for longer stays. A large outside garbage can is emptied one time each week. The cows may not always be visible as they are sometimes on an adjacent pasture or may be pulled off the property by their owner. There is satellite TV from Dish with over 200 channels to chose from. The wifi incoming signal is fast enough to watch movies on laptop. Outgoing signals are somewhat limited with one guest unable to make outgoing video conference calls. The signal is strongest on the screen porch. Unfortunately, my provider cant give me any speeds above 11ps. Cell phone coverage is good.
