The SunCottage is a unique property located in the village of South Woodstock, Vermont. One bedroom, one bath home perfect for a couple looking for a private, quiet escape amid streams, fields and woods. Newly built in 2018, the Scandinavian design is simple and natural. It's a geothermal home with all its electricity and heat generated from the sun and earth. There are three floors: an upstairs TV room; a main floor with kitchen, living, bed and bathroom; and a downstairs exercise room with hot tub and sauna. Outside there are hiking paths, a stone patio, bridges over streams and waterfalls. A large firepit on the hilltop is unlike anything you have ever seen. A sun-tracking solar array allows the SunCottage to produce more electricity than it consumes, and in certain seasons we store the excess energy in two Tesla batteries or sell it back to the grid! Triple-glazed windows, 12 inch thick walls, and a Trombe bottlewall in the basement are just a few of the elements that make the SunCottage one of the most sustainable homes in the Green Mountains. The cottage is uphill and across the street from our home, on the same 4 acre property. But your privacy and enjoyment are our primary concern, so it's doubtful you'll even see your neighbors. ____________________________________ Master BEDROOM and Attached Bathroom The Master suite has a Queen size bed with views of the woods, fields and stars from the bed. It's made up with comfortable 100% cotton sheets. You'll also appreciate two night stands, a closet, a dresser and HDTV cable TV with 100 channels, including HBO. All rooms are wifi connected with speeds of over 250 Mps. There attached bathroom features a shower and a lighted Electric Mirror. There are plenty of towels, too. No need to bring any linens. ____________________________________ FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN and DINING AREA Our kitchen is beautifully appointed with leathered granite countertops and a Zen backsplash. All new Bosch and Blomberg appliances that are energy-efficient and completely modern. It’s fully-equipped with everything you’ll need, even a lobster pot! The Wolf Induction range top is state-of-the-art. Coffee? We have two coffeemakers, the Bonavita which makes the best java you can find outside of your local coffeeshop. There’s also a mini-Keurig for those who want to get up and at ‘em. Plenty of pots, pans, dishware and silverware so you don’t have to spend your time washing between meals. There’s an electric teapot, microwave and a toaster oven, too. (No full-size oven, that wouldn’t be energy efficient!) There are plenty of extras, such as cleaning products, trash bags, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, sugar and Stevia. Your fridge comes stocked with Sip of Sunshine IPA, Vermont Farmstead Cheese and fresh Vermont milk for your coffee in the morning.! The dining area features a custom-designed Walnut table with 4 comfortable padded walnut chairs. ____________________________________ READING ROOM The reading room looks out on the green roof, which, in the warmer months, is alive with wildflowers, birds and bees. There’s a comfortable sofa, and two sitting chairs with a uniquely slim reading light. The small Thomas Moser table is a stunning piece. The Enviro pellet stove can warm up the room quickly if you need it! All in all, a great place for a stretching out with a good book. ____________________________________ LIVING ROOM The top floor has another larger HDTV and a comfortable wrap-around sofa. There are games: chess, checkers, Scrabble, playing cards and Hive. And books, too. There’s an easel and paints which you are welcome to use. ____________________________________ EXERCISE ROOM Here you’ll find a rowing machine and the NordicTrack elliptical. Your own sauna and the hot tub with panorama doors that you can open to enjoy an unfettered view of the woods, stonewalls and fields out back. You’ll never forget the Bottlewall made from 1000+ bottles that’s attractive as well as a passive solar heater. ____________________________________ OUTSIDE A stone patio with chairs and a teak coffee table leads you to the trails across the bubbling brook, it’s a short walk to your private firepit and the Kedron Pond for swimming. Explore the paths and find the spring house! ____________________________________ UTILITY ROOM There’s a washer and dryer, and two Tesla PowerWall batteries to ensure you’re never bothered by power outages. ____________________________________ SOUTH WOODSTOCK VILLAGE South Woodstock Village is short quarter mile walk down the dirt road, or take the shorter path through the woods. Here’ you’ll find the historic Kedron Valley Inn for fine dining and drinks as well as the classic South Woodstock Country Store and Post Office. Woodstock Village is just 5 miles to the north. We'll be available if necessary, we live across and down the street It’s a 300 yard walk to the Kedron Valley Inn’s Pond where you can go for an easy swim or relax by the water. (Pond pass included). The Inn's Ransom Tavern offers fantastic artisanal pizza and a well-stocked bar with local craft brews and whiskeys. And if you’d like some breakfast or lunch or just need some coffee and milk there's the excellent South Woodstock Country Store a bit beyond the Pond. The SunCottage is located on a dirt road off-the-beaten path but close enough to be a part of things. A perfect base for hiking, biking, cross-country skiing and just a ten minute drive from the historic village of Woodstock with its ski slopes, golf course, shops and incomparable restaurants. Less than ½ hour drive to the Killington Gondola, and 36 minutes to Hanover and Dartmouth College. A car is suggested as Vermont is pretty rural. We are very strict on the two person maximum. Do not plan on inviting additional overnight guests.
