A light, green, urban sanctuary. Truly unique. This home is a beautiful space to recharge and relax, a base to explore the city. The house is located in Richmond, a small and friendly suburb bordering the vibrant neighbourhood of Melville, close to Millpark Hospital. The house was featured in Home & Leisure design magazine in 2016 due to its inspirational philosophy and its unique and creative architecture and interior design, as well as a Netflix series and a number of TV commercials. The space The house was transformed by the previous owner from an abandoned wreck to an urban haven. The home was renovated using recycled material. Wood, concrete and steel have been recycled from the urban environment to create a city oasis, which both Netflix (Yoh! Christmas series 2023) and a number of local advertising agents have used in the past. The house has a small indigenous garden that is green all year round and full of birds. There are 2 large and beautiful palm trees on the property and a small calming water fountain. There are two rooms in the house and a self contained garden cottage. All are en suite and can accommodate 6 people in total. A sleeper couch is available in the main house for an additional person. The main upstairs loft room has beautiful views of the trees and the city skyline with floor to ceiling windows, its own private balcony with a hammock and table and chairs for morning coffee. It has an open plan bathroom with a freestanding copper bath. There is a study area with two desks and a library, perfect for working from home. This room takes up the entire upper floor. The lower floor bedroom of the main house also has a private entrance and is en suit (with a shower). It has a small sitting area. There is a desk for writing or working from home. The room is a quiet and cool sanctuary below the ground floor with a view out across the indigenous garden. The garden cottage has a floor to ceiling glass front but is private due to the beautiful trees outside. The space feels like a secluded tree house. There is a small self contained kitchenette in the cottage and an en suite bathroom (with a shower). There is a separate side entrance to the cottage. The main house has a sunken lounge with a fire place, library area and music space. The music space has an electric and classical guitar available for use as well as a restored record player. The kitchen, dining room, laundry room, guest loo and terrace are also on the ground floor. The home is equipped with an inverter (a battery pack facilitating the use of TV, charging small devices and Wifi for up to four hours) for when there is no power. The house is decorated with art from South Africa, Syria, Russia, Lebanon and with carpets from the Caucuses, Pakistan, Palestine, Afghanistan and Iran. The house is furnished with unique pieces of furniture. As much as possible, furniture has been reclaimed, upcycled or reinvented, without compromising on comfort. Guest access The whole house is yours to rent. There is a cleaner who will pass by twice per week - on Tuesday and Friday - to keep the house clean, water the plants and to ensure that you are comfortable. She has her own set of keys.
