Description
It's the smallest house in the guest house, bright and airy. It is located in a nice spot with panoramic views. You can see the sea from the terrace. Relax by taking a unique and peaceful getaway. It consists of a small, single space and the bathroom. Entering on the right we see a large, double bed while on the left is the kitchen and the fridge. This studio can accommodate 1-2 people. The space Aspros Potamos is referred to as the oldest settlement in the Pefkon area. It is located in southeastern Crete, a thousand meters north of the sea and Makris Gialos. The area is famous for its numerous, pristine beaches, its traditional, picturesque villages, its four gorges and its natural beauty. The place combines mountain and sea and has enough greenery for the area such as pine trees, olive trees and sour trees. It is said that in the very old days Aspros Potamos was very large, but its inhabitants were forced to abandon it because there were frequent raids and disasters from the sea. So they moved further north to mountainous, remote and safer places, using the settlement now as a dependency. They brought down their animals during the cold winter months or occasionally stayed in the dependency to take care of the gardens they had around. The first inhabitants of the mountainous area of Pefkon are those of Aspros Potamos. The area is very spectacular, the mountains, the gullies and their slopes are green with trees. To the south, the valley reaches up to Analipsi and is crossed by the Aspros Potamos torrent to which the settlement owes its name. Today, all the ruins and old houses built with stones and soil have been renovated and restored. The settlement of Aspros Potamos has been characterized as a traditional conservation site and its authenticity is protected by the Greek state. The architecture of the area is the traditional architecture of southeastern Crete. The stone-built houses of the guest house (10 in total) blend harmoniously with the landscape, transporting the visitor to another era and situation. They were built about 300 years ago. The last renovation was in 2011. The decoration is simple and plain. Sofrades, old chests, paintings, old textiles and copperware decorate the interior of the houses. Stone beds, windows, rocks built into the walls, ceilings with beams, reeds and soil for insulation) and thick partitions come to complete the scene. A cobbled path connects the houses to each other. Thick, stone-built walls keep the houses cool in the summer and warm in the winter. With respect for nature and the environment, the operation of the guest house relies exclusively on alternative forms of energy. The photovoltaic system of the guest house has won the first European award for our country. Thanks to this system, the garden lights, the reading lights above the double beds, the light in the bathrooms, the refrigerators in the kitchens of the houses, the hot water in the bathrooms all work. The main lighting of the houses is done with paraffin lamps and candles. There are no sockets in the houses. In the reception area, our guests can charge any electrical device. In the same area there is a library, internet and wi-fi. Their use is free. Thus, Green Tourism is now a reality and an ideology. At a time when the destruction of the environment is rapid, we in our own way show another way by making ecology a way of life, using only natural resources to meet our needs. Believing that beauty lies in simplicity and not in exaggeration, we restored the settlement of Aspros Potamos, keeping its original character intact and making very small interventions where necessary. Many nature lovers, hikers, climbers, people looking for something different on their vacation, visit us every year. The place is ideal for moments of peace and relaxation and combines mountain and sea. It is worth visiting the gorge of Pefkon that starts from the homonymous village and ends at Aspros Potamos. The place is suitable for Yoga, Tai Chi, painting and other seminars. Guest access All outdoor spaces are accessible. The reception is just a few meters away. Other things to note In order to maintain the traditional atmosphere, initially there was no electricity at all, and candles and oil lamps were used for lighting. Later, and with great respect for the environment, a photovoltaic solar system was installed which won the first European prize for Greece, and which now provides enough electricity to operate a low-voltage refrigerator, a light in the bathroom in each house and two lights above the headboard of the beds. There are no sockets in the house. But there are multi-sockets in the reception area. The main lighting of the house is done with paraffin lamps, while the reading lights above the double bed, the light in the bathroom and the refrigerator work thanks to the photovoltaic system of the guest house. You can have breakfast in the reception area at an extra cost. Registration Details 1040Κ132Κ2796901
