Description
The Caretaker's Cottage was built in the 1770s by Ruben Merriwether, and sits near the manor house where he and his ancestors lived at Roundabout Hills. An exceptional space with a fabulous full kitchen perfect for those who like to cook, it is truly a one of a kind place to stay. The house, where John and Fiona live, and the cottage are secluded and private, but close to all of the art, culture, restaurants and dining in the nearby towns of Frederick, Columbia, Baltimore, and Washington, DC. The space The Caretaker's Cottage at Roundabout Hills is said to have once housed a family of eight! We don't try to cram quite so many into this unique and cozy 18th-century cottage, and have designed it as the perfect space for a solo business traveler or a couple seeking a weekend getaway from the city, or visiting from out of town. We have kept the rough hewn beams in the main room downstairs, as well as the corkscrew staircase up to the bedroom, which has old growth pine wide plank floors. Guest access The entire cottage is yours while you are staying with us. You are welcome to stroll the grounds. Our dog, Lucia, is a bit protective, though she is fenced in. If you want to meet her, let us join you to make introductions. She is a Meremma, Italian livestock guardian dog. Other things to note Queen bed and mattress are firm, and promise you a very comfortable night's sleep. We provide a European style synthetic fibre duvet and simple white cotton sheets. Note that the refrigerator in the kitchen is an under the counter appliance, and so refrigerator and freezer space is limited. If guests need more freezer space, we are happy to share with you space in our large chest freezer, which is outside on the back porch of the main house. We are happy to show it to you. The stairs to the bedroom are typical of the era - a charming corner staircase, but narrow and steep. Also, the full bathroom is downstairs and off the kitchen in the modern addition, rather than off the bedroom upstairs - definitely a quirky feature! If you or other guests have trouble with stairs, you should consider carefully whether the cottage is suitable for your needs.
