On your picturesque drive through the Prime Hook Wildlife Refuge you’ll see herons and egrets stalking and catching fish. As you approach, you’ll see that we are fortunate to be located on a small private road with seven homes with the Refuge in our backyard. Our quiet area of Prime Hook Beach is thriving with wildlife - from the deck you could see horseshoe crabs, foxes, ghost crabs, rabbits, toads, multiple species of birds, and the occasional pod of dolphins. We are also a migration stop for Red Knots and Snow Geese, and each year during the full moon in May and June horseshoe crabs come to spawn on our beach. Ready to venture beyond the wildlife refuge? Take a drive to Lewes, Rehoboth, or Bethany for shopping, ice cream, great restaurants, and famous ocean beaches. We even suggest a day trip to Ocean City and Assateague Island. IMPORTANT TO NOTE Prime Hook Beach is on a wildlife refuge. This means wildlife of all kinds including pests. Just be aware that Prime Hook Beach is known for its bugs. We have the house treated regularly but please know that you will see flies of all types and sizes. Some bite but most don't. We have our house treated regularly but as the wind blows bugs will still blow in. Guest access Guests have access to the entire house except for a storage room in the garage/basement. Other things to note Prime Hook Beach is a remote/rural/natural beach. You'll find many treasures on our beach including lots of horseshoe crabs and sea shells. Water shoes are recommended. Some of the local plans have prickers in the fall season. Our home has a ring security camera door bell facing the driveway and street. It is the only camera on our property. You will be 20 minutes to the closest grocery store and gas station. We suggest stocking up with supplies on your way in. You might not want to leave once you're here. We are located on a wildlife refuge and a beach so there will be bugs/flies. It's unavoidable. We suggest that you do your best to keep the doors closed to avoid letting them in.
