Description

Newly renovated, cosy and freshly furnished stone cottage in the Peak District. Exposed beams, thick walls, lovely views. Beautiful, quiet countryside setting. Perfect for walkers and bikers. Leave the car and step straight onto lakes, moorland, crags and woodland. 2 bedrooms sleeps 4 (double, 2 single/king). Extensively equipped kitchen. Bathroom has large shower and roll top bath. Patio. Off-street parking. Netflix. Safe indoor bike storage. Have a cuddle with our lambs! The space We have enjoyed renovating and tastefully decorating the cottage which was an empty shell when we began. Our aim is to provide you with everything you need from a cozy lounge to a kitchen as well equipped as your own. The bedrooms have vaulted oak beamed ceilings and new beds. One recent guest said "The place was beautiful ... the beds were very, very comfy. We enjoyed it so much we did not leave the cottage all weekend". The bathroom has both a large shower and a roll-top bath so no-one has to compromise on their bathing preferences. Extremely well appointed kitchen. Great range of quality appliances - Bosch coffee maker, Panasonic microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and Rangemaster Professional induction hob and oven. Extensive utensils, lots of pans, cookware and dining sets etc. Kitchen has a table for 4 or use the patio for al fresco dining if the weather is kind. TV, wifi and Netflix. Pretty stone patio with wooden picnic table. Off-street parking for 1 car (2 if small). There is a separate space indoors where beloved bikes can be securely stored (sorry no e-bikes). Every window has a calming, picturesque view of green fields and hills. For animal lovers it may be possible to come and meet our farm animals and cuddle a lamb - please ask when you arrive. And you may be lucky enough to be visited by some British wildlife - foxes, hares, deer, bats. We have a pair of herons nesting locally and the area in general seems to attract it's share of unusual migratory birds. Although deep in the countryside, Sheffield is accessible and we get a few people coming for events and reunions. Since the Tour de France passed though the village in 2014 the area has become very popular with cyclists. The roads are quiet and the hills are challenging but the scenery makes it all worthwhile. Mountain bikers will find plenty to explore. Walkers of all abilities and ambitions will find fabulous walks right from the front door. Easy, flat ones around reservoirs to more challenging 'proper' hikes. This is a good base for climbers and boulderers, some are a short walk from the cottage others a short drive. We have lots of guide books to help you explore the area but to get your juices flowing ... Popular and easy walks around Dale Dyke, Damflask and Agden reservoirs into the picturesque village of Low Bradfield where you can stop for coffee and cake or something more robust at the Plough. Kids might paddle in the stream and feed the ducks. In summer there may be a cricket match. Or go through the woods to the beautiful St Nicholas Church at High Bradfield and stop for a coffee or beer at the Old Horns pub. The views from here are particularly excellent. No car needed for any of these, and many other, walks. Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs are a long walk or short drive away. Derwent has a visitor center, refreshments, good parking and walking for every ability from flat cinder paths around the reservoirs to hilly routes with stunning 360 views. This is where where the WW2 bouncing bomb was tested. When the water levels are high you can scare yourself looking at the 'plug holes' in Ladybower (well, it scares us a bit!). Bakewell, Edale, Castleton, Buxton the Hope Valley and attractions such as Chatsworth House and the Blue John caverns are within short, scenic driving distances. (Blue John is a mineral only found locally in Castleton. At Speedwell Cavern you tour the mines by underground boat; quite an experience). Cannon Hall Farm (as seen on Channel 5) is one of the biggest and best adventure playgrounds and animal experience venues in the north of England. Everyone can have a great day out here - the cafe and farm shop alone are worth the visit!
