It is on a 1/2 acre lot in city limits with a parking lot on one side and a residential lot on the other. It is located down the driveway, separate from the main house. The Freeway is close which makes easy access north or south on I-5. The freeway can be heard outside, but is muffled inside. If you are sensitive to traffic noise you might want to choose another guest house in the forest or out in the country. WHAT IS THE WATER LIKE? The cottage has an under counter water heater which provides hot water for a short shower (5min). Hot water is instant and is set very hot. Start with cold water and add hot to get the right mix. For a second shower wait 30 minutes for the hot water tank to re-fill and heat. The wash is cold water only. The drinking water is pure and good here. It comes right off the mountain streams and is bottled in our area. WHAT IS THE WELCOME LIKE? You can do a self check-in and make yourself at home in the cottage and gardens. We will text the door code before your arrival. When you leave, close the door and push the lock button at the bottom so your code will work when you return. Once you close the cottage door and windows it can barely be heard as the cottage is well insulated. It provides easy on and off to the various attractions of the area. To us the freeway is a constant calming sound. WHAT IS THE GARDEN LIKE? Garden Gate Cottage nestles down our hill. It is calming, peaceful, private, pleasant and appealing to the senses. The outdoor garden has easy style with intimate areas for conversation, eating or just relaxing. In Winter the garden is dormant and the outdoor cushions are stored. To keep cool air in close windows during the day and it stays cooler longer. WHAT ARE WINTERS LIKE? Winter months are November through March. Nights are colder than days. Usually the sun comes out and it warms a bit even in winter. There are only a couple of times a year that we have severe winter storms. We rarely have to put on chains, but we always carry chains as we live in the mountains. You should carry chains when you come to visit in the winter. The freeway is frequently plowed in case of snow and rarely gets completely closed down. Our road is a main street and regularly gets plowed during a snow. If snow is building up it is wise to park at the mouth of our driveway unless you have snow tires. We have a snow blower. WHAT CAN I EXPECT? Expect to be cared for but not hovered over.
