Description
A magical cottage set in a woodland clearing, within the South Downs National Park. The space Two workers cottages knocked into one – part Elizabethan, part Victorian (but 100% enchanting!) The stress of the city melts away as soon as you park. If you want to get away from it all, and get back to simple pleasures, this really is the place. It has been in our family for 65 years. When my parents first bought it there was no running water or electricity! Now it has both of these plus wifi, a large smart TV, a dishwasher and a washer/dryer. There are wonderful walks from the front door, and being in the South Downs National Park, the countryside is stunningly beautiful. While it feels wonderfully remote, it is only a 15 minute drive from Tesco and 20 minutes from a Waitrose. There are 4 bedrooms (2 king sized beds, one with a 4 ft 6 double bed and the last one with 2 children (2‘ 6”) single beds). The kids beds are not big enough to sleep adults so although it says it will sleep 8, in fact it will sleep a maximum of 6 adults and 2 children. All of the beds have new mattresses, pillows and bedding and are very comfy. The garden is sloped and has a terrace immediately outside the back door, which is accessed from the kitchen. There is a button swing on a tree for children to enjoy and there is a BBQ and a wooden garden table and seating for up to 8 people. Up to two well behaved dogs are welcome and sofa protectors, old towels, dog bowls etc are provided. The large garden is not secure so it is best for dogs who are not wanderers. The cottage is at the end of a ¾ mile off road track through the wood – well maintained (but not suitable for sports cars (as some ground clearance is advisable) or electric cars). Most cars are absolutely fine get up the track. Mobile reception is fine at the cottage. Please note: (i) The cottage is very much loved but it has always been used as a holiday cottage and as such is quite simple/rustic so if you are looking for high end luxury, this is probably not for you (you may spot the occasional bit of flaking paint). (ii) The cottage has very low doorways so if you are tall, you will need to take care not to knock your head. (iii) You may see the occasional walker/rider as the path that goes past the cottage is a footpath/bridle path. (iv) There is no central heating but there is a wood burning stove in the sitting room (logs provided) which provides a lot of heat and an open fire in the dining room. There are also two storage heaters and oil filled radiators in each bedroom (which heat up quickly). (v) The cottage is not suitable for those with mobility issues or children who are under 5 years of age. This is because the path from the parking place to the cottage is a little steep, the stairs inside the cottage are quite steep, there are steps from the kitchen to the sitting room and the terrace outside has a wall with a drop to the garden. There is a well in the garden, which is locked and not accessible. Guest access You will have the whole cottage and garden to yourselves. Other things to note The off road track is not suitable for sports cars, electric cars or cars with low ground clearance. Most cars are absolutely fine to get up the track.
