Description
Hidden down a country lane in the cool woodlands on Chesapeake Bay salt waters, a modest ranch style home with two guest bedrooms and a bath, just perfect for two couples or a small family. Wildlife, paddle boats, remote beaches, art studio, slot car racing, disc golf, archery - outdoor living at its best! The space On the lower Eastern Shore of Virginia, down a 1/2 mile private country lane through farm fields and woodlands, arrive at Whistling Swans Ecolodge perched above a tiny salt-water estuary leading out to the Chesapeake Bay. Surrounded only by natural features, you have all to yourself the privacy and beauty of this hidden sanctuary. At any time of the year, a visit to Whistling Swans offers respite from civilization and the cares of the world. A walk down the natural country lane, a paddle in the canoe or kayaks, time spent creating in the art studio, using the spotting scope to view wild birds up close or just sitting out on the screened porch - a visit here will be satisfying and rewarding. Two bedrooms, including fresh linens, share a full size bathroom, each with double occupancy. One bedroom is equipped with a full-size double bed and the other with stacked bunk beds, meant to accommodate only two acquainted couples, good friends or a family of four. The living room is comfortably decorated and furnished for quiet reading or viewing of the state-of-the-art entertainment system. The kitchen is fully equipped but suitable only for vegetarian cooking, breakfast cereal bar included. The dining areas, whether in the house, on the screened porch or on the outdoor picnic patio, has beautiful sunset views over the woodlands and waterfront. Kayak and canoe paddling are a major source of fun at Whistling Swans where the boats and all equipment are supplied. All paddlers may benefit from Capt. Dave's expert safety instruction and guide service. A two mile bike ride west is a private swimming pool club which my guests are welcome to use during the months of May - September. Bring your hiking shoes and bicycles for further exploration of the woodlands around the property and the scenic, flat country roads. Public tennis courts are within driving distance. Bring your camera and swimwear for spending time out on the secluded beaches of the Chesapeake Bay; picnic coolers, beach chairs and umbrella are supplied. Cooking and dining out on the backyard patio and screened porch is a snap with all equipment and facilities provided for your use in preparing meals outside. As the lodge is surrounded by water and thousands of acres of woods and farm fields, companion animals should remain at your own home. The lodge and grounds are not equipped for their security and safety. There is a resident cat called Poppi on premises. The Eastern Shore of Virginia is the peninsula that separates the Chesapeake Bay from the Atlantic Ocean, and settlement here dates back to the earliest of colonial times. Rich in history and natural resources, the Shore is a destination of choice for bird watchers, outdoors enthusiasts, artists, boaters, beach combers, bicyclists, kayakers, photographers and anyone interested in following the roads less traveled. Down-home family restaurants abound, eclectic museums and cultural arts centers inform and entertain, our historic resources are national treasures, and here small town America is alive and well! Guest access Please note that the home and grounds are not suitable for children under 10 y.o. Any children visiting here must be closely supervised due to the extent of natural woodlands and proximity to open water. Guests are welcome to use all of the facilities and accommodations of the property, including kitchen, dining, outdoor patio/screened porch, bar-b-que and beach equipment. Also, guests of the lodge are welcome at a private swimming pool complex nearby. Kayaks and canoe are available with free instruction. Feel free to bring your own refreshments and food, but respecting my vegetarian lifestyle please, no meat. During your stay I live on the property and will make every effort to accommodate your visit with the minimal intrusion of your privacy. It's fun to greet my guests with refreshments and show them around the place so that they will feel comfortable making themselves at home. I am available to help make their visit fun and interesting, recommending things to do and places to visit. My days begin and end with paddle excursions, so I am often available to guide my guests around the salt water estuary and the Chesapeake Bay. Use of watercraft is at the risk of the guest and requires their attention to my safety tips and rules. Other things to note My household is vegetarian, compassionate living is my credo, but I welcome visits from folks of all persuasions who will respect my lifestyle. If you want to go out on the water, it's a good thing to bring water shoes for protection against stepping on a sharp oyster shell in the water.
