Things to do near The Chalet We are down the road from Mount St. Louis Moonstone ski resort. There are many walking and hiking trails and we are close to Copeland Forest. It is also great for mountain biking. If you search YouTube 'The Chalet Moonstone' I've made a video showing you some of the things you can do nearby. The Chalet backs onto a managed forest and while the trail is marked 'Private' or 'Closed' In a few places, we have permission to walk through the land and while some tree harvesting and forestry is obvious, it's a wonderfully private space where you can walk for miles in natural bush. By the way, we're told the fences that crisscross the area and made of the round limestone that give Moonstone it's name, were built by slaves back in the day. If you walk out the basement door and down past the firepit, you'll pick up the trail. Make your way left. Quayles Brewery is awesome and only a 12-minute drive from The Chalet. The beer is excellent ...I'm an expert! :-) they are dog friendly, offer delicious food and, at the time of writing this, regularly have live music Friday and Saturdays afternoons from 5 to 8pm. Just search 'Quayles Brewery' for open times and latest info. (See image in pics) We are 20 minute drive to Orilia, Wasaga, Midland and all the lakes and beaches they offer. We are surrounded by woods in the summer and winter activities are in abundance and the fall leaves are magnificent colours! There is a beautiful little town called Coldwater that is 10 minutes drive that offers Golf (Bonaire), a train museum, grocery shopping and unique shops and is where the beer store and LCBO are located. The gas station at Warminster (about 20 minutes) heading towards Orillia has an LCBO sub license which is handy if you miss the Beer store or LCBO hours in Coldwater We are also close to Horseshoe Resort if you want to be busy. There’s good golfing there too. Gravenhurst, the gateway to the Muskokas, is a stunning 46 minute drive on Hwy 11. Or you can go the long way via Bala on lake Muskoka and see a bunch more lakes. (See image in pics) In Midland there is great night life at Lot102 for weekend nighttime dancing or great food. If you want to find more interesting things to do I suggest to search the web Sainte Marie among the Hurons is a pioneer village (seasonal) Martyrs Shrine beautiful grounds and magnificent church Little Lake Park offers activities Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre There’s horseback riding in Washago Georgian Bay Islands National Park Honey Harbour and Ferry that takes you to nearby Georgian Bay islands Wasaga beach is not far 20 mins down the back roads Orillia has beaches and a steam boat tour among other things to do and is about a 20 minute drive Guest access WARNING: Cars left on the road get ticketed because the snow plow can't clear the snow, so make sure you park in the drive way. I do recommend car pooling to save headaches in winter. Keep far left driveway open from garage to road Guests will have access to entire chalet and property except for the garage and garage loft. Driveway is shared as we need access to garage. When you drive up Keep far left clear access. In the winter try car pooling. We get a lot of snow and the driveway shrinks when we get a lot of snow as there’s no where to put it. We can have 3 cars comfortably. Otherwise we play musical cars to get in and out. Please note: propane under the deck. And bbq is gas from the house. You must be 25 to rent this space. Also we are a dog friendly rental. If you have dog allergies this may not be a good fit for you. PLEASE clean yard after your stay. poop and scoop! Other things to note PLEASE NOTE. NIGHTLY RATE INCLUDES 13% ONTARIO HST. Things to do and discover in the area. We made a video to show you around. Please go to YouTube and search 'The Chalet Moonstone' Should be the top search result. If you're a guest at The Chalet in winter, please take care EVERYWHERE it can get icy. Keep left side of driveway clear. It is shared. DO NOT PARK CLOSE TO GARAGE as the snow falling off the Garage roof will damage a vehicle. Cars parked on the road will be fined in a snowstorm as the snow plow can't clear the snow if you are parked on the road. Please note we are a dog-friendly rental. If you have severe allergies this may not be a good fit. Food in the fridge Just giving you the heads up that there are, from time to time, food items left in the fridge for the next guest to enjoy. Feedback over time from guests is that they appreciate this (we're talking Ketchup, mustards and other condiments) Fire Wood If you wish to bring your own wood, you are welcome to use the fire in the living room. Please call us if you want to buy wood. Please note that if we have same day turnaround dishwasher may not have finished. Depends on when previous guests left. Clean sheets and towels provided. Sometimes there might be things in the dryer.
