Studio Ghibli Cottage of Whimsy in Beautiful Trees

The Cottage of Whimsy is a small and adorable Studio Ghibli-themed studio built in the early 1930s, lovingly renovated in 2021. Whether you're an artist looking for a nourishing creative retreat, a couple looking for a peaceful getaway, or a small family eager for a restorative escape to sunny Southern California, the Cottage of Whimsy is for you! With views of 100-year-old oak trees, the sounds of chickens clucking and horses clopping, and walking distance from 4,500 acres of scenic trails! The space The space is small, and oh so cute and cozy! It's one room, that has a bed (plus airbed), the kitchenette (microwave, small fridge, large sink, toaster, etc.), laptop-friendly desk, small two-chair dining table and chairs, cozy couch, pantry, and closet. (There is no oven or hotplate.) This space is not ideal for longer term visits because of this. The bathroom is technically a half-bathroom, as it has the toilet and a shower. And it’s pretty small; the shower height is not the best for taller folks. The sink just outside, in the kitchenette area. The space features a tv, small bookshelf with various tarot decks and fiction and nonfiction books to enjoy, and various little Studio Ghibli-inspired touches around the space—some you'll need to use your keen sense of adventure to find! There’s no patio or outdoor space to hang technically, but if you’d like a spot we can set up a couple of chairs at the base of our majestic oak tree that sits just inside our backyard (separate from our dogs). Just ask if interested! :) Jessica and Nōn live on the property, in the main house, just about 10 feet away with their three rambunctious and loving rescue dogs and way too many chickens. Guest access Guests have self-check in access to the Cottage of Whimsy, the studio space itself. Guests will receive self-check in access information a day before their expected arrival. Other things to note On Accessibility: The Cottage of Whimsy is pretty small (roughly 220 square feet), with a little bathroom and shower. The door to the bathroom is about 20 inches wide, and the shower is about 27 inches wide. The shower itself is standing only, with an angled ceiling. It’s not the best fit for taller folks. The tallest point in the shower is 75 inches and the lowest is 69 inches. In addition, the studio sits atop an 1930s-built stone garage, with a stone stairwell leading to the front door. With it being on the second floor, and with the smaller-sized bathroom area, the Cottage of Whimsy is not suitable for those with accessibility needs. On cell service: You will lose cell service when you get into the area. Once you get to the Cottage, you can join our Wi-Fi to get cell service back (Wi-Fi calling is recommended). On parking: We only have one parking spot, and fits a small to medium size car. Please let us know if you have a large truck or something of similar size. On safety and power: We live in a high fire risk zone. In addition, the power company will, on occasion, shut down power in the area for safety. They typically only give us a few days advance notice. We’ll always do our best to communicate as swiftly and as clear as possible. 🔌 On neighborhood noises: We live in an area with lots of nature: birds, dogs, horses, etc. in addition, we have chickens, as do our neighbors. So occasionally you’ll hear a rooster crow. If you’re sensitive to sounds, it might be beneficial to you to bring some ear plugs. 🐓🙂 On inclusivity: All are welcome and loved. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🍉🫶
