La Bugia del Sensale was born from the reacquisition and renovation of my granddad's house, the “sensale”: the guarantor in the livestock trade in peasant culture. Here he came home every evening with his dusty shirt soaked with the smell of his animals. In the shed his animals and the buggy he used to move between the white roads of the countryside could rest . At night, he grabbed the wax greased candlestick, the “bugia”, to make itself light along the stairs and went up to bed. The space La Bugia del Sensale is today a small welcome corner inserted in an architectural complex prior to 1800. Enveloped by the rolling hills of Chianti, it overlooks the characteristic medieval village of San Donato in Poggio and the monastery of the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie, among the more precious Mannerist testimonies of religious architecture of the Florentine county. La Bugia del Sensale develops on two levels: the old shed, on the ground floor, now becomes a large and welcoming hall where you can relax in the company of a good glass of wine and good music. In winter you can enjoy the warmth of the fireplace made with recycled wooden beams and pietra serena, in the summer season it offers himself as a spacious and cool space from which you access the small courtyard tiled in terra cotta and decorated with aromatic plants and flowers. On the first floor there is the dining room with a fully equipped kitchen and the old restored refectory table where you can share delicious meals, together with your loved ones, even when you are more numerous. On the same floor there are the three rooms, all furnished with preference for the identity of the place, thus restoring the original furniture found in the house and for the others, relying on the beauty of Tuscan craftsmanship. The beds were in fact made by a local artisan joinery, using reclaimed oak wood. The doors, as well as the fixtures, represent the Tuscan style and the closet niches were obtained by showing the original stone wall. All rooms are equipped with private bathroom decorated with glazed terra cotta tiles from a local kiln, as well as the hand basin and the light points of the house. Each room also offers: Smart TV, Hairdryer, Fridge Bar, Kettle, air conditioning and heating on the ground. The Room of Lies It was the room where the Sensale kept archives of all sales records relating to official and unofficial commercial operations. The room is equipped with a double bed and a single bed with the possibility of adding an additional bed. From the window of the room you can admire the beautiful valley at the foot of the village and see in the distance the towers of the town of San Gimignano. Guest access La Bugia del Sensale is located in a strategic position halfway between Florence and Siena, in the heart of Chianti, a few minutes by car you can reach the most characteristic Chianti villages: Panzano in Chianti, Greve in Chianti, Badia a Passignano, Radda in Chianti, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, Certaldo etc. For those who at the end of the day were tired of using the car you can reach on foot, with a walk of 10 minutes, every service that the village offers: grocery with local products, one of the best butchers in the area, Bars, restaurants, pizzerias, pharmacy, supermarket and stationery.
