This sweet bungalow is located on a tucked-away organic farm, 45 minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, and directly abutting the Downeast Sunrise Trail and thousands of acres of conservation land. Newly crafted space with pine interior and cork flooring. For folks who appreciate simple living but want a cozy bed! Cot available for third person. Full size mattress, all bedding, stove with oven, pots, pans and dishes, small fridge and sawdust based composting toilet (on back porch) The 12'x19' newly-built bungalow is tucked into a lightly-wooded corner of our farm and offers privacy without being in the middle of nowhere. A barn and animal paddocks are close by, with chickens, ducks and pigs. Parking for two vehicles is near to the space as well. The bungalow is primarily set up for two people, but a third can stay- we have a cot and sleeping bags available. Electricity year-round; cold running water to the sinks in the warmer months, and jugs of water provided in the colder months. Space is fully insulated and heated with a vented propane space heater. Apartment-size propane cookstove and oven. Bucket-type composting toilet system on the back porch (unheated but protected from the elements and private). People love to stay on the farm (we have two other Airbnb offerings on the property) and foray out to Bar Harbor. It can get quite crowded on the island, so it is nice to have a getaway to come back to at the end of the day. Some folks decide to spend some or the bulk of their time exploring the trails, ponds and mountains right here. We have a couple of bikes available, and a canoe on a remote undeveloped pond that is a 15-minute walk away. It is a working farm and homestead, so you'll likely see or hear other people around, but we give you your space and privacy. Feel free to wander most spaces of the farm's gardens and grounds and visit with the animals... Our older dog Scout is a real sweetie, our "ambassadog". Cayenne, his younger buddy, is extra friendly, but a little jumpy at first. Please turn your back on him and he will calm down. If dogs make you uncomfortable, let us know and we can keep them leashed. There is a stone fire pit out in front, with kindling and firewood provided. The starry sky is amazing on clear nights, without the light pollution of more densely-populated areas. A gas grill is set up for outdoor cooking when desired. The outdoor shower is a short walk away up the driveway, attached to the main house, and is in use from approximately May to October. In colder months, a shower is available for use inside our house on the ground level. A stay in the bungalow is sure to slow your pace, and help reconnect you to the natural world. There is high speed internet in the bungalow. Everything you need to cook and clean up is contained in the space. The seasonal outdoor shower is attached to the far side of the main house, a short walk up the driveway. The indoor shower is in the bottom front of the main house in winter. Guests from another Airbnb on the property have access to the shower as well. There is a very clean (no stink!) sawdust composting toilet system that is on the back porch of the bungalow. Cold running water for washing and drinking, except in winter- we will provide jugs then. Guests can wander around the farm and access the Sunrise Trail right from the property but respect posted signs at neighbors' properties. We have a canoe on nearby Little (Horseshoe) Pond that you are welcome to use also. The barn and animal paddocks are near to the bungalow (mind the electric fence!) and Chadde, our pet American Guinea Hog, is close by to visit, and feed! Please don't enter the barn itself without one of us with you, and be aware that folks rent the upstairs portion of the barn. We are often here on the farm and happy to show people around, but have busy lives with two kids, farm and carpentry, so it is "catch as catch can". We try to have everything set up and easy to understand so that even if you need to check in late, you should have no problems. We acknowledge that we are on unceded Wabanaki territory— we work hard to be good stewards of this land and aim to leave it better than when we got here. The hope would be to leave the land to Wabanaki farmers as part of a trust after we pass. We have 17 acres at the end of a quiet dead-end road, and abut the 87-mile multi-use Downeast Sunrise Trail. We live on the edge of the wilds- you could hike for days right out the back door! The farm is a diverse mix of annual vegetable and flower plantings, fruit trees and shrubs, and greenhouses packed with tender season crops. We do have a lot of biting insects in the spring and summer but there are screens on the windows, and if you are walking around, usually they can't catch you! Driving or biking is the only way to get here, and while we are tucked away, you can find everything you might need in Ellsworth (best to do it on the way in) Your five star review means a lot to us, so please read all info and ask questions! There is a small convenience store nearby, but most supplies should be found in Ellsworth before coming Downeast. We have a farmstand set up from May through October at the end of the road with tons of veggies, and we also have our own wine, hot sauce, maple syrup and jam and eggs for sale, just let me know if you would like something! Lots of hidden gem hikes right nearby if you don’t want to venture into Bar Harbor. Country style and fine dining all available within fifteen minutes. We have a lot of local neighbors known as black flies from mid may to early July, they are fairly blood thirsty but as long as you are moving , they can't get you too much (and they don't like indoors!)
