Description

The whole group will be comfy in this spacious and unique spot in the pines. The overhead door is the only “garage” thing about it! There are plenty of activities in the area, or stay right on our nearly 15 acres of forested land to relax and walk or ride our trails through the trees. We’ve added a screen for the garage door opening. Now you can roll up the garage door to feel like you’re outside! The screen cords have been damaged so it will no longer retract, but works great down! The space Our year-round Gabin is not a fancy place, but is a very comfortable space, with nearly 15 acres of roaming area, trees and trails. Much of the interior of the cabin was constructed by our family with wood harvested right from our forest. The king bed is hand crafted from 6x6 timbers from trees that were also harvested from our property. The second bedroom has a bit of a whimsical feel to it, with each wall having a different wood theme, all wood taken from our property and hand crafted to finish the space. There is a third, unfinished bedroom, that we use as storage for now. We kindly ask that you keep that room off limits. The bathroom is spacious and is also finished with our own timber, with the exception of a small unfinished utility area that the bathroom shares space with. The water is very “hard” in this geographic area, which can cause a slight rust color tint to the water and at times have a slight sulfur odor, but we have found the water softener does a great job treating that down to a minimum, even unnoticeable most of the time. Most of the interior space is a large central room, shared in an open format between the living room, dining area and small kitchen space with a top freezer fridge, kitchen cabinet sink we built ourselves, complete with a hand-built concrete countertop, gas range and stove, and a cedar island flanked by bar stools on one side. Nearly one entire wall is an overhead door that can be raised to enjoy a warm summer morning or a cool, sunny fall afternoon with the football game playing in the background. We also have an RV spot on the property for rent. If you are interested in that, just let us know. It is an extra $50/night and has a 30 amp RV electrical outlet, a regular 110 outlet and a water spigot. We only offer it for rent to those renting the cabin, so there is no worry about having other visitors on the property with you. We just ask that the RV have a bathroom, as we don't want to risk too many people on our septic system at one time. Most of your time will probably be spent outside roaming the property, riding your ATVs or snowmobiles on our trails, or sitting by a fire at the fire pit, grilling on the BBQ pit, playing on the playground equipment, or at a nearby lake, state park, or riding the miles of biking, ATV and snowmobile trails nearby. Our spot is a great destination, or home base for a day trip to Duluth, or to Millle Lacs Lake, both about 45 minutes away. But when you do hang out inside the cabin, you can enjoy comfortable leather furniture and a 60” HD TV, DIRECTV, and wireless Internet suitable for light surfing, social media and email, some streaming, but in our area there is no 'wired' internet service available, so internet is over-the-air cellular. Speeds and data don’t typically hold up for heavy HD streaming for very long, but hey, you don't come here to watch TV right!. There is a propane heating stove for the winter months and mobile window unit A/C for the summer. Guest access You can park pretty much anywhere you’d like on the south and west side of the yard as there is no real defined driveway, and although the pine trees seem to love the sandy soil, we’ve found it difficult to find a grass that does too! So you are not likely to hurt it much parking anywhere you’d like in those areas mentioned above. We have a property gate combo lock, when gate is locked, and a Yale keyless entry deadbolt and SimpliSafe security system for which we will provide you unique access codes to operate during your stay. Other things to note Our wireless Internet is good while the data lasts and then it gets throttled back. We have 150G high speed per month, but if guests early in a given month use 10-15G per day, we unfortunately can’t guarantee streaming quality data for the entire month. Our Gabin is situated in the woods in the northern half of Minnesota where at different times of the year there are varying numbers of mosquitoes, ticks, flies, lady bugs and other beetles. Nearly everyone that comes to see our place says those annoyances are a small price to pay for time in the beauty of the woods, as demonstrated by our ratings and guest comments. If you choose to visit, we hope will truly enjoy your time in nature. We have peace and quiet and lots of space but would not go so far as to call it secluded, although others have :). We have neighbors all around, one of which parks their trucks on their property and you can usually see them through the trees in spots. However, with fifteen acres there are plenty spots were you can see nothing but trees if that’s what you are looking for. Before listing the Gabin we rented our RV hookup spot on the property to campers on the Hipcamp website. You can see all of the reviews there for our listing, Pine Hollow, if you would like. Here are a sample of the reviews found there: "This spot is magical, wish we could keep it to ourselves. Easy to get to, level ground to park on, and electrical and water (for the RV). Views were beautiful as well. Can't wait to come back. Molly T." "What a wonderful place. The pines were beautiful and the location was perfect. We (and our dog) loved exploring the trails in the woods. The host was exceptional and everything was well laid out for us. It was very quiet and peaceful. We will go back and have already recommended it to or camping friends. It exceeded our expectations! Lori B." "Great property and secluded, convenient location. Very nice spot for travel trailer and yard games. Benjamin E." "Great place if you like quiet, pine trees and stars.” Mark R."
