Spacious mountain retreat, close to Canyon Lodge
Description
Conveniently located between Canyon Lodge (0.4 miles) and The Village (0.5 miles), our condo is the ideal mountain get-away! Very clean and comfortable it's great for two couples or a family group. There is a well equipped kitchen and large adjacent living room, perfect for hanging out after a long day of skiing or hiking. Excellent amenities include covered parking (no more digging the car out of snow), 1Gb wifi, cable TV, and sauna. The shuttle bus stops right outside the front door. The space There are two bedrooms with on-suite bathrooms, both with bath and shower stocked with shampoo, conditioner and soap. The living room has a sofa-bed that pulls out and is perfect for kids. The kitchen has all standard amenities and is stocked with basic non-perishables (olive oil, salt & pepper, dried herbs, condiments, etc) so you don't need to bring those from home. We also have coffee sachets for the coffee machine, hot chocolate, oatmeal and granola bars if you arrive late and need things for breakfast. We have a fire-place and provide firewood but would encourage you to bring fire-starters, newspapers/kindling if you're planning on having a fire. There is a washer and dryer in the condo, along with soap for you to use. Please note that we don’t have AC so it can get warm in the summer. We're fairly close to the pool so in the summer there may be some noise from kids playing during the day. Guest access The condo is accessible from the garage parking (7ft clearance). We are on the second floor so from the garage, you have to walk up two short flights of stairs (20 steps) to get to the condo. There are no stairs within the condo. The pool (summer only), hot-tub, sauna and communal BBQ are right next to the condo. Other things to note Staying in Mammoth gives you easy access to some of the most beautiful hiking in California. The condo has trail books, maps and some recommendations of our favorite hikes. Mammoth also provides easy access to Yosemite National Park. The best way to get from Mammoth Lakes to Yosemite Valley is to use Tioga Road (120) which is open approximately half the year. The first part, Mammoth Lakes to Lee Vining, going on Highway 395, is about 30 miles, maybe 40 minutes of driving. If you were to include the June Lake Loop as a detour then rejoin Highway 395 and then go to Lee Vining, that would make it a bit longer, 39 miles and about 1 hour of driving time. From Lee Vining, up the mountain to Tioga Pass, then along Tioga Road to Crane Flat, then Big Oak Flat Road to Yosemite Valley, is a total of 74 miles from Lee Vining to the visitor center at Yosemite Village in Yosemite Valley. In theory, you could drive it in about 2.5 hours of driving time. That would be if you made no stops at all. However, it is a spectacularly scenic drive; Tioga Road is the highest public road in California, reaching an elevation just short of 10,000 feet above sea level at Tioga Pass. There are many sights and views along the road, so you would want to make many stops at turnouts, viewpoints and facilities. We would budget at least 6 hours for the drive from Lee Vining to Yosemite Village, if you want to make a scenic excursion with several stops. Some of the highlights of the Tioga Road drive include Ellery Lake before you enter the park, Lembert Dome, Tuolumne Meadows, Cathedral Peak, Tenaya Lake, Olmstead Point, Yosemite Creek, Siesta Lake, South Fork of the Tuolumne River, Tuolumne Grove of Giant Sequoias. You won't have time to explore all of these but you will at least get a look at most of them from the road and you can stop at a couple of them. Choose one for a picnic lunch, such as Tenaya Lake.
