Description
A self-catering, completely off-grid cottage in the forest, easily accessible next to the N2. A wilder space to stop over en route, switch off, rest and reset. For longer stays there are many activities in the area to choose from. Reception and electricity are very limited, expect low light/candle evenings. Your stay helps fund a reforestation youth development project on the property. You can plant your own tree or let us do it. We offer walks to the nearby indigenous forests and river. The space The cottage is on a roughly 4Ha property on the mountain side of the N2 in Tsitsikamma. A peaceful emvironment with a 'baby' indigenous forest as part of our reforestation project. Distant road noise can be heard from outside the cottage, but birdsong makes up for that! The patio is a great space to enjoy a morning coffee and is the coolest place to be in summer! The main bedroom has a double bed and a lounge for extra privacy, perfect for a snug sunset spot. The smaller bedroom has two single beds that come together as a king size. There is hot water in the bathroom only - the bath is equipped with a hand help shower and we are still working on improving the water pressure! The cottage is completely off grid with a very simple solar system. Expect to make use of solar lights and torches on cloudy days! The kitchen has a two plate gas stove and small gas oven, as well as an Aga stove that keeps the house warm during winters. The kitchen has no hot water. There is a gas chest fridge/freezer. Please take note of our recycling and compost system when visiting. Even though it rains a lot in Tsitsikamma, we try to conserve water as we rely on rain water collection only. We have no connection to municipal water. The cottage is in the woods, so don't be surprised if you come across insects, reptiles and little mammals in the house. Even though we try our best to keep them out, they sometimes manage to sneak in. The property is also an eco-restoration demonstration site where we work with our local Eco Youth Circle to bring self and natural awareness in the area. Projects and funds are coordinated and managed by Cultural Connections NPO 242-151. Living off grid may takes some getting use to, so please don't hesitate to ask. Guest access Guests have access to the whole property, while respecting the privacy of possible other guests in the cabins and campsite. Feel welcome to stroll around and see how the land is slowly being restored. Ask a custodian/host on site for more information, should you be interested in planting a tree or three, or hiking to the nearby indigenous forests and river. Other things to note The cottage is self-catering
