A note regarding larger gatherings such as reunions, weddings etc: Due to the hill top location, the thick forest and the pond there is very little flat ground on the property. Parking is limited to maybe 5-6 vehicles and there is no street parking because there is no street. Please feel free to look at the pictures and ask any additional questions in this regard. Guests have exclusive access to the entire property and all its amenities except for a locked supply closet and utility room. The hosts live off-site but can generally be reached 24 hours a day by text, phone or the airbnb app because they work opposing shifts. Eagle Hill Retreat is in an extremely quiet area on a single lane dead end gravel road. It's rare for guests to see or hear anything that isn't part of nature. Important note regarding traveling to and from the cabin that is irrelevant to most people: The Hocking Hills area is very hilly. Roads curve and go up and down. The last 0.6 miles of road to the cabin is gravel and dirt and is single lane and is either inclined or declined as you travel up the hill. 99.9% of the time a regular sedan does just fine. We come and go in a 2005 Toyota Corolla. When there is freezing rain, or days of repeated snow or of the county is under a snow emergency you must use an AWD or 4x4 vehicle to drive in and area and to make it to the cabin. In perfect weather vehicles that have been specificly modified to be lower to the ground are not advised for this area. If you are a motorcycle enthusiast you will find that standard or dual sport bikes do best in the gravel road leading to the cabin. Sports bikes with plastic fairings and Large cruiser will be difficult to control by some rider. Large RVs are also not recommended since there is no turnaround. Guests arrive by car and typically spend part of the day exploring the nearby attractions, though many find enough to occupy them just by staying on the property. Eagle Hill Retreat is within close proximity to many touristy spots in Hocking Hills, including; - Ash Cave 17 min - Cedar Falls 19 min - Lake Hope 19 min - Zaleski State Forest 18 min - Old Man's Cave 20 min Dogs are allowed. There is a $90 fee for a maximum of 2 dogs per trip. Please include your pets in your reservation if you are bringing your fur babies with you. The cabin is located in the middle of hundreds of acres of virgin forest and is surrounded by nature. The 5 acres are also completely wooded. The cabin is literally on top of a hill as shown by the drone photo we have posted. You may see or hear deer, foxes, squirrels and other animals walking around oblivious to the humans who share their space. There are also butterflies, lady bugs, carpenter bees and other insects and sometimes they will get inside the cabin through an open door. The pond is full of frogs and small fish and the water attracts all sorts of other animals. You may see paw and hoof prints on the patio. Native plants make up a large percentage of the "lawn" surrounding the cabin. We have made attempts to have a minimal impact on the environment. If there is a scale of privacy levels we would consider our location to be at a "naked outside" level of privacy. In the winter if there is snow or ice you will likely need an AWD or 4x4 vehicle. If you are adverse to this level of immersion in nature we kindly ask you to consider if this destination is best for you. Heated floors: The entire cabin has hydronic heated floors. Hot water circulates under the tile every where. We have the temperature of that water set to 70 degrees in the boiler. It doesn't make the tile feel warm because it's not warmer than the human body but it makes the tile not feel excessively cold to bare feet . The heat continuously radiates from the floor and heats the cabin. We found that if we raised the temperature of the floors higher than that then the cabin starts to get uncomfortably warm because the hot air never stop rising from the tile and the thermal mass of heated tile and concrete wouldn't dissipate for days. Guests can further raise the air temperature using the mini-split units. More heating info: The cabin has mini-split units that can deliver heat and cooling to individual areas of the cabin. They are energy efficient and allow different temperature settings in the different areas. The indoor units mounted on the walls can not however deliver heat to one room and cold air to another room at the same time since they are served by the same outdoor unit. Please make sure all the units are either all set to Cool or all set to Heat. If one room is set to Cool and another is set to Heat an error "--" will display because the outside unit can't send cold and got air at the same time. If that happens just go around and adjust the units to either Cool or Heat and turn them off and back on. Connectivity: We have pretty decent internet but please be aware that cellular service in the entire region is spotty at best. We usually use facetime or similar to make calls from the cabin. TV: Guests will need to use their own streaming service logins on the smart TVs. We used to have cable at the cabin but not surprisingly most of our guests preferred to just log into their own Netflix, Hulu etc.
