Welcome to 18 Lake. Situated in beautiful, quiet, Port Kent, NY., this is the perfect place to relax and to get away. People come from all across the country to tour the area on bicycles in summer, and from all over the world during the winter for Lake Placid's winter sports. In fall, the colors are incredible. You will find golf about 1/2 mile away, and other attractions such as Ausable Chasm, High Falls Gorge, orchards, boating, hiking, and more close by! There are train tracks located in between the house and the lake. You must either really love trains, or should be someone who sleeps really soundly. Though we have gotten used to the train whistles/horns, a newcomer to the experience may find the occasional noise disturbing. Some nights there are up to three trains that pass, and some nights there are none at all. It's just something that you should know in advance and keep in mind as you decide where to book. Also, like many homes in New England, this home was built without air conditioning. We installed room air conditioners for the bedrooms in June 2020. There is a one-car garage, but no remote, so you will have to enter the house and press a button to open the garage. Please be mindful that the canoe is in the garage and that the driveway slopes down at a slight angle from the street, so you’ll want to be a skilled driver when parking in the garage. Entry is through the front door, which has an electronic keypad. A code for which you will be provided prior to your arrival. Only the mid-level and attic bedrooms and living areas are furnished at the moment. The upper levels deck provides an exceptional view of the lake. The basement is “under construction" for cement work and new carpeting coming soon and some other stuff, but no work will be done at all on days or nights when guests are occupying the house. Of course, basement access is still there for the clothes washer and dryer as well as accessing the sports equipment. Please avoid the storage room to the left at the top of the stairs in the attic. We are *usually* not present, so you should have the house to yourself. Unless stated previously, you will have the place to yourself, and we will never just show up and interrupt your personal time in the home. Port Kent is an extremely quiet, close-knit and friendly community. If you plan on having some manner of big, loud, late-night celebration, you should probably look elsewhere. We have a nice little beach, a tennis court, and a small playground, all within walking distance. When the Burlington to Port Kent ferry is running, Amtrak stops at the Port Kent station. The Port Kent train station is walking distance to the house. The Burlington side offers most everything you could imagine that a very large New England town would offer. Plattsburgh, NY airport is about 25 minutes away, as well as the Plattsburgh Train Station, which is open all year. Our listing shows up when searching "Burlington" and "Vermont", but we are in New York. There is a ferry that runs from Burlington, VT to Port Kent, NY (almost literally our back yard) in the summer only. There is also a ferry that runs from Plattsburgh, NY across to Vermont, and it runs all winter. Please note that we have a three-night minimum (an Airbnb bug will sometimes (erroneously) allow for someone to book for one or two nights). We are currently only accepting instant bookings from guests who have previous Airbnb reviews. Additionally, the nightly price is set for 4 guests. Our house can accommodate up to 6 guests, but please be aware that each additional guest after 4 will incur a $10/per person (per night) charge. Also, check-out time is 11am and check-in time is not until 3pm. Please respect these guidelines. Housekeeping really needs this time to do their thorough, recommended COVID cleaning.
