THE HEMLOCK. Modern, Kid-friendly Cabin near Boone

Description

Hurricane Helene Update: We are incredibly fortunate that our property did not suffer damage from the storm and the main roads to and from our home are accessible. Internet and power have been restored, and our property is ready to offer a lovely refuge for anyone needing a temporary place to stay. We are devastated by the losses experienced in Western NC and encourage any locals to reach out with a message prior to booking if you want to spend a few days at the Hemlock. We want to help. The space Words do not easily capture the beauty and magic of The Hemlock. On its face, It's a cozy but modern cabin that allows you to enjoy nature with the modern conveniences of every day life. But there is a bit of magic tucked into every beam and every corner of the home. While the structure is new, the owner has explored and treasured the land it sits on since her own childhood and, even as a guest, it's hard to ignore the effect this has on your experience. The Hemlock is located off of Highway 221 (20 minutes from Boone/Appalachian State and 15 mins from West Jefferson). The cabin sits about 350 feet from the road and is surrounded by trees on all sides. The home is named after the Hemlock trees by which it is surrounded (an ode to these softwood trees that are dying out in the Appalachian Mountains). As you travel down the driveway, you cross "salamander creek." The perfect spot for skipping rocks, wading, and catching salamanders of course. The home was constructed in 2021 and is approximately 1400 square feet. Downstairs, you'll find an open living space with a wood burning stove, large dining room table, and a fully equipped kitchen. There are two bedrooms on the first floor, one with a Queen bed and one with a King bed, and a full bathroom positioned between the bedrooms. There is also a pack n play available for families traveling with an infant. Upstairs is a large loft with 4 built-in twin beds, a full bathroom, and an office/reading nook. The loft space was crafted with children in mind and our entire home is kid friendly. You will find a small playhouse under one of the bunk beds, a nugget couch (which can be shaped into many configurations), books, board games, and toys. If you are traveling without children, its the perfect space to read, craft, or [if necessary] work. Please note, the twin beds were not built with adults in mind. While we allow a booking with up to 8 people, this number was set with children in mind, as we do not feel the bunk beds comfortably accommodate adults. Outside you will find a large porch overlooking the forest and a fire pit, complete with everything you need for a night of S’mores and firefly viewing. The kitchen is equipped with a coffee pot, toaster oven, tea kettle, hand mixer, salt/pepper, olive oil, and some basic spices. There is a full set of cookware and bakeware, cutting boards, wine bottle opener, pizza cutter, etc. Your hosts enjoy cooking while staying in the home and have made every effort to provide the most commonly used kitchen essentials. The downstairs bathroom has a hairdryer, clothes steamer, and common travel essentials in the event you leave something at home. You will find paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, and laundry detergent on site, but depending on the length of your stay, you may need to replenish some of these items. Guest access Upon arrival, you will enter from the side porch where we have a key-pad door lock. You'll be sent a code to unlock the door on the morning of your reservation. Other things to note CELL PHONE SIGNAL: Most guests will lose their cell phone signal once they turn down our driveway. Our home has Wi-Fi, which will enable most modern cell phones to make calls. However, anyone staying in our home must be prepared to have no cell phone signal or, at best, a very weak signal. This also means that if there is ever an internet outage, you will need to leave the property to establish a signal. SECURITY CAMERAS. There are two external security cameras that are easily visible. There is also an Echo Show located on a downstairs end table. This device is for our personal use. You are welcome to unplug it upon arrival or leave it plugged in for your own use during your stay. If you unplug it, please do not relocate it (we’d like to be able to find it during our next stay). NO LIVE TV: Each room in the house is equipped with a Smart TV and you will be logged into Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and Amazon Prime. However, there is no traditional “live tv.” WINTER WEATHER: Fleetwood receives an average of 23 inches of snow a year. The majority of the snow fall occurs in January and February. We will do everything in our power to make our home accessible during winter months but please understand that on rare occasions, access may be impacted by winter storms.
