They are especially pleased to linger with visitors over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and introduce visitors to the famous -- and also little known -- treasures of the Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountains corridor of upstate New York. With advance notice, the hosts may be able to meet guests from New York City and international visitors, whether arriving by Metro North and Amtrak trains at Poughkeepsie Rail Station or arriving by plane at Stewart International Airport. Menus for, and the location of, the breakfast and an afternoon refreshment are published daily on the guest bulletin board in the Downing Garden Room and change frequently by season to highlight whatever may be fresh and local. The dishes themselves may emanate from the hosts’ food experiences during their travels and may sometimes reflect diverse culinary traditions throughout the United States and around the world. Breakfast is normally served in the Downing Garden Room, flooded with morning light. In fairer weather, breakfast may be taken al fresco on the backyard patio. From time to time during inclement weather, the innkeepers may offer breakfast in the more formal Cropsey Dining Room. The hosts will be happy to store beverages and provide glassware for any wines, beers, ciders, or other distilled products that guests may purchase in the region and may wish to enjoy during their stay.
