Description

Hello! My name is Hannah. I love my renovated Farmhouse and hope you do, too. My labradoodle, Ace, and I work from home. I AirBnb my home so I can pay off my rental property early. This renovated farmhouse is for the traveler who cherishes cozy spaces and a relaxing, care-free time. Ideally located in the SUBURBS of Chicago, this well-decorated farmhouse is ready to accommodate 2 people. SAFE neighborhood 15m to Wheaton College 12m to Fermilab 12m to Geneva/St. Charles 12m walk to Metra The space While, I'm still open to short term renters, I'm on the lookout for a long term renter - at least one month to stay. Ideally - a quiet professional woman or female student. Please message me about long term stays. This room is available for long term renting starting September 1, 2022. THE NEIGHBORHOOD This 1080 sqft home is warm (not temp wise, just in atmosphere!), clean, quiet, and is located in a safe, mature neighborhood in the suburbs of Chicago. I'm good friends (practically family) with some neighbors. They watch the place like a hawk (because they're retired and bored, not because the area is sketch) and know that I AirBnb my home. My neighbors are very friendly and if they see you on a walk or the front porch, they'll likely greet you and smile. SHARING IS CARING The space is for a private room. Everything else is shared, so keep that in mind if that's not your jam. OLD AS THE HILLS It's incredibly hard to manage expectations on AirBnb, but I'll do my best with this. My home is 135 years old. When Noah was done building the Ark, he came and built this house. The floors creek. The stairs are steep. The doors also creek. Sometimes I creek. All the rooms are upstairs and are in close proximity to each other. This is not the ideal 'snuggle with my bae for the weekend' space. The stairs inside my home are steep and narrow. There's a stair runner and a railing to make the stairs not so 'death trappy.' SUBURBS Just a remind that is space is located in the city of West Chicago and NOT in the west section of downtown Chicago. That gets confusing so quickly. Since Airbnb doesn't show the exact address until booking, use the restaurant Egg Yolke Cafè in West Chicago for a reference point. GETTING AROUND To get downtown, you'll need to talk 12 minutes to the Metra Train Station and then take a 55 minute ride to downtown (Ogilvie Station). Cost: One way ride on the Metra train to downtown (Ogilvie) is $7. You can also catch an Uber that will run you about $65. To see all the cities where the Metra stops, search "Pink line Chicago metra." PROXIMITY O'Hare - 35 mins Midway - 55 mins Fermilab in Warrenville - 12 mins Fermilab in Batavia - 14 mins Wheaton College - 14 mins Wheaton Academy - 4 mins Geneva/St Charles - 12 mins Downtown - 1 hour drive/Uber or 55 minute train ride KIDS AND STUFF I have no kids I am a non smoker and do not allow drugs or smoking on the premises. I do own the most adorable Labradoodle (Ace). She's hypoallergenic, friendly, and a happy pup. YOUR ROOM Space is for a bedroom with a full bed with quality linens and bedding, space for your clothes, extra pillows and blanket, a phone charger, snacks, water, iron, and mirror. There's a SmartLock on the bedroom door for added privacy when you leave the home. BECAUSE I LOVE YOU - Quality linens (Ralph Lauren, Vince Camuto, Threshold) - Fluffy white towels that smell like English gardens - Toiletries (toothpaste, razors, cotton balls, hair spray, organic tampons) - Wifi - Fan (swivels and everything) - Noise machine - Fridge space - Free parking for one car - Local and city recommendations (I even share the BEST pizza around) SELF CHECK-IN Whether I'm in town or not, I'll be ready for your arrival and will provide self check-in details the NIGHT before you check in. There will likely be other guests in the other bedrooms during your stay. LESS THAN FIVE STAR REVIEW COMMENTS I have great ratings but that doesn't mean ALL of the reviews have been five stars. There's an element of truth to almost all of them (mostly), and in this section I want to address them so you can understand the validity of them. Ants - During the summer, an occasional wood ant will be found in the Farmhouse. Probably a half dozen ants are spotted each summer. If you are allergic to ants or are bothered by them, I would NOT recommend you book this during May-October. Location - Some were upset that I wasn't located in Downtown Chicago or that I was too far away from a place they were wanting to visit. I try to make it clear in the listing how far away I am from main places. I'm happy to provide drive time prior to bookings. Dusty room - Guest was correct. I had work done in a room (custom trim) and the dust from the plaster continued to settle for weeks and weeks. When they visited, I had failed to vacuum the dust off the bed and lamps. My bad. I'm glad they pointed this out. Unwelcoming - It all came down to lack of communication and guest confusion. If it hadn't resulted in a bad rating, it would be humorous. I'm friendly and always super happy to have guests in my home. I really felt so bad about that miscommunication during our initial greeting. Check-in - The guest messaged me and told me the check-in issue was her fault (she knocked on the wrong door) and that it had nothing to do with the instructions I had shared with her. Regardless and funnily enough, she still gave the checkin process 4 stars. Temperature - I empower guests to change the thermostat to their liking (I'm a hotbox and can NOT handle the heat). Instead of asking me to change it or changing it themselves, they made the decision to "grin and bear it" and then based their rating on their hot misery. Sticky door - The front door has been maintenanced and no longer sticks. Steep stairs - Because of the supply chain shortage, my elevator is on backorder until 2025. There's nothing I can do about the steep stairs. If you've been skipping leg day at the gym, try the Marriott. Bed being too small for two people - this comes down to guests not properly estimating the ratio of bed to persons. I'm sure there's an online calculator out there somewhere that helps with this kind of calculation. Shower pressure - Yah, the shower pressure totally sucks. I've had three plumbers come by to see what can be done. Short answer: nothing. Guest access In addition to their bedroom, guests are welcome to the following rooms: - Bathroom - Kitchen. For light use; if you're wishing to make a 5 star meal, please give me a heads up. - Dining room - Front porch. (Unless you see me 'workin from home' on the porch) - Basement . The washer and dryer are located in the basement (door in kitchen). The basement is not haunted, but it's not exactly HGTV ready. Detergent and softener are provided. The expectation is that you leave each shared space in the original or better condition than how you found it. During your stay Just depending on the week, I may or may not be in town, so the following may happen: 1. You'll have the house to yourself (very unlikely) 2. You'll never meet me and share the space with other guests (likely) 3. You'll see me here or there and I'll be staying at the house with you (somewhat likely) Either way, I'll be ready for your arrival. Other things to note This house is very much loved by me. I care for it deeply and will ask that all guests show it the same love. I love kids and have the pics to prove it but this home is not suitable for children.
