Its citadel has housed the Museum of Corsica since 1997, and it is also the seat of the University of Corsica. With its 7000 inhabitants, Corté is located 68 km from Bastia and 80 km from Ajaccio and is easily served by the micheline (Corsican train) that crosses Corsica from Bastia to Ajaccio. Corté is located at the confluence of the Tavignanu and Restonica rivers at an altitude of 450 m, at the foot of a citadel perched on a rocky peak.
